MOTD: All Matte Everything

Before you read this, just know that I am aware that I need to invest in a better camera to capture my pictures. My cell phone just doesn’t cut it when I need to zoom in and showcase the colors I used. I’m sorry!!!! Okay, continue.

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve been able to play with my palettes. Maybe it’s cause I don’t normally wear eyeshadow to school, which is where I spend the majority of my time… Either way, this look is the result of boredom, and also because I wanted to practice my blending skills.

9:00 PM Update

Reading break has pretty much just started, but I feel like I don’t have time to take a break. I’ve picked up a bunch of extra shifts this week because I’m still saving for my Mexico trip with my friends (and it makes me not feel so bad for buying a few things for the VIB sale that starts tomorrow!!) and any time that I’m not at work, I either need to be working on a paper, finishing an assignment or studying for midterms. Conveniently, said paper, assignment and midterm are all on the same day! I also have a presentation that I need to be working on but haven’t touched. Help me.

snapchat-1777902061Anyways, I just wanted to write a little update since the last time I posted was a little over a week ago and tbh I just needed a break from all the work haha. As I write this, my cat is laying in his favourite spot… my lap. I have a habit of keeping my feet on my chair whenever I’m sitting at my desk, and he’s gotten used to sticking his body in the space between my legs and chest. He always lays in the world’s most awkward positions, but he always looks so comfortable!

This past week has not been very kind to my wallet. And you’re probably rolling your eyes because I just said I was saving up for a trip. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT. I can treat myself if I want to!!!! H&M finally launched their online store in Canada and as a special deal for staff members, we got an extra 20% off of our 25% staff discount. I bought things that I had alway been meaning to buy, but never did because I couldn’t justify the purchase (remember, I HATE spending money on clothes. I’d rather spend it on food or makeup). I bought some basics as well as a new duvet cover which I was actually so pumped about. I also bought a planner for next year because my life always just seems so put together when I write fill out important days and write down things I need to do. (The planner was not from H&M by the way. Just throwing that out there.)

ALSO. Like I previously mentioned (although I’m sure everyone reading this is probably already aware) the VIB sale starts tomorrow. I’ve seen a loooot of people doing “Whats In My Sephora Basket” posts and I’ve always thought it was kind of weird because I always have tons of things in my Sephora basket but I never actually buy them. Like I feel like it doesn’t matter what’s in your basket, people fake flex all the time, it matters what you actually buy. Which is why I only pay attention to VIB haul posts/videos. No hate intended, it’s just my opinion. BUT. I’m gonna be a hypocrite and show yall whats in my basket anyways.

I’m buying the Smashbox Light It Up primer set because hello!!!! You get a FULL SIZE Photofinish primer (which is $45 CAD by itself) AND a travel size Photofinish primer water (which is $20 CAD). So I pretty much get a free primer water! Wow! Also because I ran out of the samples I got and this was a perfect opprtunity to restock.

Then I’m just getting the full sized De-Slick setting spray because I ran out of the 1oz bottle I bought and I really notice a difference in how my makeup looks when I use this (it looks better) and I don’t want to go back to being a greasy ray of sunshine at the end of these cold, dark winter nights. Why am I so dramatic.

Oh yeah! I noticed I have 50 followers now! Which isn’t a lot in comparison to others of course, but it’s still mind blowing to me that there are at least 50 people on this planet who read my posts and interact with me and show me love. I’m imaginging 50 people in one room and it looks like a lot in my head. Celebrating the small victories is just as important! So thank you 🙂

Okay this was enough of a distraction. I need to finish this paper. Hope you guys have a good rest of your night, and if you’re on reading break as well I hope you’re able to make the most of it! (Whatever that might be for you hehe)

October Favorites

October was a crazy month. It began really slow and then next thing I knew it was already over. It’s probably because my school schedule has been so crazy, that I barely notice time go by. Besides that though, October was great. I celebrated Thanksgiving with my family, got to see my all time favourite band The 1975 for the second time (and currently still feeling the post concert depression HARD) and my cousin turned 18 and had a debut (a big coming of age birthday party for filipinas when they turn 18 haha) and it was sooo much fun. Anyways, here are my favourites for this month.

KathleenLights

This is kinda random because pretty much everyone and their mama knows who KathleenLights is or has at least heard of her. I’ve always heard of her but I’ve never actually watched any of her videos. When I was looking for inspiration for eye makeup, her tutorial using only elf products popped up, and after I watched that one, I binge watched all her videos (not all, but a lot). I love her personality in her videos and how genuine she seems and I think she’s one of my favourite Youtubers now.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip – Mess Around

2016-10-30 02.22.44 1.jpg

Ever since I got this colour, Beeper has taken a backseat as my everyday lip colour. Mess Around is one of those “your lips but better” shade, for me at least. I like it because it’s very natural looking on me and I personally think the colour looks very nice on me. The main reason why I like it is because the formula of this is amazing. I think it’s safe to say that the Ultra Satin Lips are my new Colourpop fave. They are very long lasting for something that doesn’t dry matte and it is soooo so so comfortable on my lips. I never feel like they are cracking or have the life sucked out of them. I’m pretty sad that this was the only Ultra Satin Lip that I purchased from my Colourpop order. I want more!!!!!

Tweezerman Smooth Finish Facial Hair Remover

2016-10-30 02.22.41 1.jpg

You should know that I do not trust those at home moustache remover lotions like Nair. I have this fear that I’m going to get a really bad chemical burn and my upper lip is going to stay red for like a week. I am also pretty cheap LOL I don’t want to pay someone to wax my moustache off if I can do it for free. My cousin actually got this first and raved about it so I wanted one of my own, so I don’t have to be ghetto and pluck my moustache off. It takes some getting used to, but it is really good at getting every hair and takes less time. PLUS this came with little tweezers which I was also really exited about because I have wanted Tweezerman tweezers for the longest time!

Urban Decay de-slick Setting Spray

2016-10-30 02.22.42 1.jpg

I hate that I love this so much because I’m gonna have to go back to Sephora and spend $38 on the full sized bottle. MY POOR WALLET. It’s okay though because this is God’s gift to my skin. I noticed a dramatic difference in how oily my skin is at the end of the day when I use this. My skin had almost no trace of excess shine, which is something that usually never happens when I only set my makeup with powder.

elf Contouring Brush

2016-10-30 02.22.45 1.jpg

This may be the most dense brush I have ever came across in my life thus far. If you really like an intense contoured look, this brush will help you achieve it no problem. Like I said, it is EXTREMELY dense so it’ll pack on the product  easily and the shape of the brush fits perfectly into the hollows of your cheeks.  I guess the only downside to this is that the density of the brush and the short bristles make it kinda hard to blend product. I don’t mind it though because I will just go in with my NARS Ita brush and blend everything out. It is also really good for nose contouring. Not to mention this brush is $7! For the quality and user friendliness (is that a term you can use for makeup brushes?) of this brush, I think that it’s a steal!

Milani Conceal & Perfect Foundation – 06 Sand Beige

2016-10-30 02.22.27 1.jpg

I won’t say much about this foundation because I’ll be posting  a full review on it soon. But I’m sure you’ve all heard about this and I just want to let yall know that there is a reason why everyone love this foundation. It’s definitely become one of my favourite foundations!

As usual, let me know of any favourites you’ve had this month, I would love to check them out. Take care!

Mini Sephora Haul and Review

Sephora recently had their Beauty Insider Appreciation Event and for me, since I just became a VIB this year, it meant that I get 3X the points. So I decided it was the perfect reason to buy a few things that I had been meaning to purchase anyways.

Sephora Midnight Magic Face and Body Glitter Pot – Gold

So I originally got this intending to use it as a highlight (it was also on sale so why not), but I found that the glitter parts were a bit too large to use as a highlight alone. I wasn’t completely disappointed though because this is still such a beautiful product, so I used this under my highlight and it really makes it stand out even more. Yall know I’m extra, I gotta glow. If you’re one of those people who like to add a little shimmer to your shoulders or décolletage then this might be something you’d enjoy. But it’s fall now (which pretty much means it’s winter where I live) so I’ll have to wait another season to do any glittering of the body. It also has this little net that you dip the brush in, which prevents you from getting too much product onto the brush.

ABH Brush #12

So I needed a new eyebrow /spoolie brush because 1. My current eyebrow/spoolie brush is friggin small. It’s literally the length of my middle finger and kinda hard to work with… and 2. It’s falling apart. GURL. When I was doing my brows in Texas, the spoolie detached from the brush and was stuck to my eyebrow. It was wild. My cousins and sister couldn’t stop laughing. ANYWAYS. Ya I got this brush. I love how it came with the little protectors, so that the bristles aren’t just exposed. However I hate the spoolie. Like maybe it’ll grow on me but I feel like it just scrapes my skin in the process of blending out my brows. The brush itself is pretty good though. It’s made with synthetic fibres, so it’s perfect for a creme product like my Dipbrow. It’s also fairly small and mimics brow hairs perfectly which I really like.

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Setting Spray

I was originally going to buy the All Nighter setting spray, but the De-Slick caught my eye because my skin gets oily and it’s meant for oily skin lol. I had read a lot of reviews because I was curious as to what people preferred; All Nighter or De-Slick. A lot of people said De-Slick didn’t do much for them, which kinda turned me off, but then the people who were writing the reviews either didn’t have oily skin (Like why would you even buy the product in the first place…?) or had extremely oily skin, and I’m in the happy middle, which is why I ended up going with this one. I bought the smaller version just as a precaution though, in case I ended up hating it. But I don’t hate it! I really do notice a difference in the oiliness of my skin when I use this – aka my skin isn’t as oily as it would be if I only used powder to set my makeup. When I initially used it, it didn’t feel like any spray was going on my face because the mist is sooo fine but I really like the fact that it’s that weightless.

They also had a little promotion going on where if you spend $35 you can get a little sample bag. I like the design and size of the bag because it fits quite a few items. It isn’t extremely sturdy but I think it’s perfect for holding those “necessities” (yenno, lipstick, tampons, hand lotion that kinda stuff). Anyways, the sample bag came with the following things:

  • Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara in Excessive Black (I used it and forgot to include it in the picture because it’s sitting in my makeup drawer now LOL)
  • Sephora waterproof eye makeup remover
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Mad Max brown
  • Estee Edit Mattified Lipstick in Killin It and Abt Last Night and Lip Flip shade transformer in Turn Up and Turn Down
  • Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black perfume
  • Dr Brandt microdermabrasion age defying skin exfoliator
  • Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Total V Contouring serum (specially formulated for asian women and also supposed to help reduce the appearance of a double chin. YESSSS)
  • Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion (it came with three different samples too. One for dry skin, one for dry combo skin and one for oily skin)

I also got the 3 free samples you always get when you order online at Sephora which I didnt picture. I got the Smashbox Iconic Photofinish Primer, Chloe Love Story perfume and Ren Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream. So all in all I would say I got a really good amount of stuff for what I spent. I love free things!!  And I’m also so happy I love everything I bought. Now time to save money like I’m broke for the upcoming months #StrugglingStudentLife
