August Favourites

It’s officially the end of summer y’all. How was summer for you guys? Mine was amazing. I feel like I did so much, while also being able to experience full-time work for the first time. As much as I have loved the summer heat, I’m lowkey really excited to wear my winter parka (YES, I already know I’m going to regret saying that once Calgary hits -40C).

Influencer by Brittany Hennessy

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

I found out about this book months ago, and it got released at the end of July which gave me lots of time to devour it this month. This book is all about how influencers, bloggers and the like can take their platform to the next level. Full of tips, tricks and insight on the industry from Brittany Hennessy. She’s the senior director of influencer strategy and talent partnerships at Hearst Magazine Digital Media. So she knows what she’s talking about. I loved this book because I genuinely learned valuable information that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. I’ve been utilizing some of the things I’ve learned from this book, and I’m already seeing growth (mind you, it’s not a crazy amount of followers/engagement, but it’s constant and that’s what matters to me!).

I think that regardless of how many followers one has, any person who is interested in using their blog or Instagram page as a side hustle can benefit from this book. It covers everything from creating quality content, attracting followers and negotiating deals with brands. Truly valuable information.

Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser

A45779E0-5C49-49A0-8A91-B6B184CC5439.JPG

This is something I picked up from the Glossier showroom when I went to New York in June (If you’re interested in seeing the things I got up to in NYC, head to my Instagram! My whole NYC trip has it’s own story highlight on my profile). This cleanser is perfect for those with normal or sensitive skin. It reminds me a lot of Cetaphil, because it’s so gentle on my skin, but still super effective in the sense that it cleanses and keeps my skin moisturized. If you’re looking for something that will fight acne, or help with oily skin, this is most likely not the cleanser for you.

I only use this cleanser in the morning, and I apply it on a dry face.

Glossier Boy Brow – Black

99E73FDD-2A78-4947-9A22-D040EA7589A0.JPG

Another thing I picked up from the Glossier showroom! I bought it because my cousin said it was her holy grail brow gel, and her brows are ALWAYS on fleek, so I figured that this would work for me. Long story short, it made it onto my monthly favourites, so you know I LOVE this. I’m so sad I didn’t get more than one (I’m pretty sure she picked up like 3 when we went).

The thing that sets Boy Brow apart from other brow gel products that I’ve tried is that the formula is wax based. My brows literally don’t budge when I use this, which makes it perfect for a night out, or for a full day of doing errands and running around.

Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50

6C76615C-6BC4-4ACE-8C94-7B6725CB46D7.JPG

My sister brought this back for me after her trip from Japan. This can be worn alone like a normal SPF, or under makeup. The formula is watery (like the name states), which makes it easy to distribute on your face, but it dries down kind of tacky. I think this is  a big plus because 1) it doesn’t make your face oily and 2) you could definitely use this as a primer!! I love multi-use products!

The Greatest Showman (Movie and Soundtrack)

greatest-showman-movie-review-1.jpg

Okay, so I’m a little late to hop on The Greatest Showman bandwagon but WOW I understand the hype now. CJ and I watched it this month, and the movie had me humming, laughing and tearing up.  Basic synopsis: A guy starts his own circus, and it follows the trials and triumphs that him and his troupe go through. But it’s also so much more than that. And it’s also based on a true story.

I’m not usually into musical movies, but I loved this one. The soundtrack is amazing, and it’s constantly on repeat. (This Is Me really makes me feel like I can do anything you guys. It’s my power jam. Listen to it and try to tell me it doesn’t make you feel powerful and courageous!)

Best Shot

Best+Shot+3.jpg

This is a 8 episode docu-series on Youtube that Lebron James produced. (It just ended, so if you wanted to binge watch the series, you can). It’s follows the real story of a high school basketball team from Newark, NJ on their journey to the state championships. You learn a lot about the players and the coach, and I couldn’t help but root for them. I don’t play or watch sports, but Best Shot really took me through the motions of loving a team. Y’all, this series really made me bawl my eyes out.

This also humbled me a lot because it made me realize how lucky I am to live in suburbia in Canada. I’ve never had to worry about poverty, ending up in the streets and having my friends killed or my parents incarcerated. But it also made me respect them so much more. These people go through a lot every day, and I hope only good things come their way.

Terrace House – Opening New Doors

60a0b3f15c79530ec29583dee823d01f.jpg

My friends got me addicted to this show. The best way I could describe it would be like Japanese Big Brother, without the competitions, eliminations and prize money. It’s also produced way better, and has hilarious commentators. Six strangers live in a house together, and we watch them adjust to living together. It has drama and romance.

I’m gonna be honest, it does start out a little slow, but as you get further into the episodes, you can’t help but have favourite housemates. I’m currently waiting for part 4 to get uploaded on Netflix!

Aaaaand that’s it for my August favourites! If you would like to share some of your favourite things with me this month, you know where to leave your comments! I hope the rest of the year treats us all well. Big thank you to all the people who still rock with me, and a shoutout to all my new followers 🙂 I hope you all like it here and look forward to my future posts.

April Favourites!

I missed a March favourites post, but I’m back for April! How has everyone’s month been treating them? April was a busy month, but definitely one I needed for my sanity. After an intense year, I felt like I was truly able to relax and take some time for myself, while still keeping myself busy with my hobbies and side projects.

Sidenote: Wow my blog is turning 2 on May 5! Crazy! I have to give my thanks to everyone who has supported my blog, read my posts, given me ideas and creeped me on occasions. I’ve been able to do some pretty cool things since creating ALBOE, and I can’t wait to see where this next year in blogging takes me!

Fitbit

2018-05-03 18:29:17.264

My sister let me borrow her old Fitbit since she never uses it (but imma borrow it so much that it becomes mine – anyone with a sister knows the drill 😉 LOL). I’m not the most active person, but I really like seeing how much steps I get in a day and how much calories that I burn. Also the neurotic Capricorn in me loves the fact that I can track so many things! I especially love the water and sleep tracking feature.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

2018-05-03 18:29:21.091

I don’t know if I’ve included this in a monthly favourites yet. But definitely deserves a spot in this month’s post. Yes, I know. SK-II is luxury skincare, but there is a reason why this is priced so high. It’s a miracle product (for me at least). I use this after I tone and it seriously does wonders for my skin in terms of texture and brightness. I used this regularly since I got it (in November, for the VIB sale), and when I noticed I was running a bit low, I stopped using it so I wouldn’t run out so fast. But during that time, I noticed my skin started to feel dehydrated, bumpy and dull. I rarely change anything with my skincare routine, so I have a strong feeling it was because I stopped using the SK-II essence.

I know that Sunday Riley’s Good Genes treatment is another luxury item that has really good reviews, but in all honesty, if I had to choose between the two, SK-II blows Sunday Riley out of the water. If you can afford to splurge a bit, then I highly recommend giving this essence a try. Be mentally (and financially) prepared to become addicted to it. I bought a new bottle during the April VIB sale, so I saved a bit of money that way.

Atelier Cologne – Clementine California

2018-05-03 18:29:19.235

I’ve been looking for a new summer scent, and after many trials and free samples from Sephora, I settled on this guy. My ideal scent is something fresh, clean and light, and Clementine California checks all those boxes for me. It’s very citrusy and fresh, but it doesn’t make me smell like a straight up orange. Great staying power, and fades away gently.

Optimal Living Daily

Optimal-Living-Daily-Header.jpg

I love listening to music when I’m doing chores or getting ready, but I’ve been trying spend my time consuming things that are going to help me develop more as a person. Optimal Living Daily is a podcast I discovered through one of my favourite Youtubers (Amy Lee, who actually narrates an episode!), and each episode is a narrated blog post or book chapter related to personal development, minimalism or productivity. Each episode is around 7 – 10 minutes long. I just find that this is something nice to listen to when you feel like you need a boost of motivation, or a push in the right direction!

Also I wanted to include this cute lil crochet top I made this month. I’m so proud of it! I’m working on a lavender one as well. They’re going to look so cute this summer!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul!

First of all, let’s ignore the fact that I’ve been missing for three months. That’s a story for another post. I wanted to show you guys the things I got from the Sephora VIB sale! I’m actually super pleased with everything I managed to grab, despite some of the things I had my eye on selling out (ie: the four pack of Clarisonic brush heads for $80… til next time I guess 😢). We all know that ya girl LOVES a good deal, and I can confidently say that I got my money’s worth this time around! I saved $45 on everything, which is pretty good considering I got a lot of things.

Also, something that I learned this time around is that the Sephora app and website are not that accurate when it comes to stock in store.

  1. Some things I wanted on the app said that no store in my area had the item in stock. Which was a lie because I went to two different stores on two different occasions, and they still had the items.
  2. Also, I found an item in store that had the “online only” label on it on the app/website

Trust no one!!! Jokes. Don’t go to those extremes. But from my experience, I’m probably just going to do my VIB sale shopping in store from now on.

My Current Beauty Faves!

Hey everyone! I feel like it’s been quite some time since I’ve done a monthly favourites post. With everything going on this summer, I feel like I haven’t had enough products to include in a single favourites post, and I wasn’t trying to waste your time by having you guys only read about a single product. So I’ve compiled a list of beauty products that I have been loving over the past couple of months and put them all in one post. Enjoy!

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum | Review

I’m sorry! I know this was supposed to be up on Friday, but it has been a crazy past week! (No excuses though) My days have pretty much been looking all the same. Work from morning to evening, gym for a couple hours right after work, sleep, and do it all over again the next day. I haven’t really had time to do anything leisurely, like blog or work in my bullet journal at all this month, but to be fair, I have shifted my priorities a lot, and I have less time to do “fun” things at the moment. But I’ve finally been able to sit down and write a review on the Pixi Overnight Glow Serum for you guys! I’ve been using this product this entire month, and I know a lot of you have been curious as to whether or not I liked it, so read on to find out!

April Favourites

Hey everyone! Another month over means another month of favourites. This one is short and sweet, but everything on this list of favourites have been things I’ve used practically non stop this entire month. I hope April has treated you as well as it has treated me!

Also, like I mentioned before, my blogs turns one year old in exactly a week (which is so crazy to me, it really doesn’t feel like it’s been that long). I’m doing something special and fun that I’ve been planning for a couple weeks now, so stay tuned. I really hope you guys think it’s cool because if not, I’ll be pretty sad LOL.

My Skincare Routine (and why it’s so important!)

Last week, I posted a guide on how to develop your own skincare routine (click here if you haven’t read it yet!) and I said that I would make a post about my skincare routine and why I think routines are so important. So here it is! My own personal insight on why I think developing routines is so important, as well as all the products I use, why I like using them and how I apply them to my face. Enjoy!

A Beginner’s Guide To Developing Your Skincare Routine

I’m not going to lie, I only developed a solid skincare routine a couple years ago. When I was younger, I really didn’t have anyone to tell me what products I should use or how I should take care of my skin. Everyone in my family has pretty good skin, so no one could offer personal advice whenever I’d experience breakouts (and trust me… they were really bad). I put this little guide together because this is something I wish I had when I was struggling with my skin. So I hope this genuinely helps you and maybe provides you with some information you may not have already known. I’m not a dermatologist and I’m not qualified in an way, so this guide is just full of information I have picked up over the years. Always use your own judgement and common sense.

August/September Favourites!

Since I didn’t post an August favourites, I’m just going to combine it with my September favourites post! Tbh this could also be called a Texas haul because most of the products I mentioned were bought when I went to Texas LOL. Hope yall enjoy!

I also realized I forgot to post my Texas vlog when I uploaded it to Youtube, so you can watch it below!

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

My new go to spot treatment. This stuff is STRONG (it smells like straight up alcohol) but oh my goodness this is super effective. It works the best on those really ripe pimples. By ripe, I mean those pimples that are really red, somewhat large and have the white head on them. Yenno, the ones that look like they’re about to explode. To apply this, you take a qtip and dip it into the pink solution (don’t shake the bottle!!) and then put the pink stuff on your pimple. I was surprised by how much product actually gets onto the qtip, so when you use this for the first time, it’s really only necessary to dip the very tip of the qtip into the pink stuff. You can get this in a glass or plastic bottle, they’re the same price, but I got the glass one because it looks nicer.

Pixi Glow Tonic Exfoliating Toner

I was hesitant about buying this because a toner has never been part of my skincare routine, but I’m so glad that I did. After using this, I noticed that the texture on my face has pretty much disappeared. I noticed the biggest difference on my chin, right under my bottom lip. I usually always get stubborn tiny spots there that just do not go away and literally after 2 uses, they COMPLETELY disappeared.  My skin always feels so smooth and supple and just healthy! Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that this is only sold in Target in North America, so my Canadian gals are out of luck, unless you order this online (which is what I’m gonna have to do when I run out of this because I don’t ever want to be without this toner LOL)

NYX Lip Lingerie in Teddy

I had been wanting anything from the Lip Lingerie collection since NYX first announced it’s launch, but since I live in Canada, these are extremely hard to come by. The Lip Lingeries had been out for a while, but I never actually saw them in store until the end of August, around the time I left for Texas. Fortunately I found the shade I wanted in the first Ulta I went in. The formula is pretty moussey and dries to a comfortable matte finish. You do have to reapply once or twice throughout the day though, depending how long you wear it for. I seriously wanted to buy the entire collection because most of the colours in the collection look like my collection of everyday lipstick haha. Anyways, I love this colour because it’s a really pretty deep brown, but it isn’t extremely dark to the point where it would be too dramatic to wear on an everyday basis. I’m wearing it in the Texas vlog at around 1:35.

Makeup Organizer

I have been looking for a makeup organizer for the longest time and I finally came across one that I love at Ross. It’s super simple and I love it because it saves so much space while still being able to hold a lot of items and all the products I use on an everyday basis can be organized easily and everything has it’s own place. I also just love the look of the clear acrylic. (It was a struggle and a half trying to fit this into my carry on to bring back home thought)

2016-09-29 07.23.02 1.jpg

NYX Pro Fan Brush

I’ve been wanting this brush for so long and I am so glad I finally bought it. I love this brush for applying my highlight. It is so dense and really packs on the product while still making it seem “natural” and seamless. Not to mention that this brush is SO SOFT and is such a dream to use. I just wish it had a brush protector like brushes from elf.

Hope you enjoyed! Let me know some of your faves if you want and I’ll be sure to check them out. I have so many ideas of things I want to post but life is starting to get busier with school and everything, so here’s to hoping I can remain somewhat consistent hehe.

June Favourites

I can’t believe June is already over yall. I feel like so much of the summer has already passed, and I feel like I still have so many things to do! Maybe the fact that I was still in school this month made it feel like such a fast month. That being said, I’ve been really focussed on school this month so I haven’t had a lot of time to buy and try products but AYY I finished my class with an A!! So I plan on rewarding myself with some products I’ve really been wanting, so stay tuned for that hehe. Anyways, here are my favourites for June!

Hidden In The Jungle – Adult colouring book postcards

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

When I wasn’t trying to finish a paper or studying for my final this month, I was colouring the postcards in this book as a way to pass time and relieve stress. I like the fact that these are postcards, because when you’re done colouring the pictures, you can send them to your friends and family. And I know a lot of people love receiving things in the mail, so this is a nice way to surprise them and show them you care. Also I love the little jungle creatures I get to colour! Unfortunately, Canada Post is going on strike in a couple of days, so I won’t be able to send the postcards I finished colouring any time soon.

Batiste Big & Bouncy XXL Volume Dry Shampoo

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Shameless confession, I’m pretty sure I use dry shampoo more than regular shampoo. And of all the dry shampoos I’ve used, Batiste is the only one that really works for me. It takes away the oiliness of my hair, makes my hair feel relatively clean without feeling like it’s weighed down by product and the formulas all smell really nice. I didn’t like this when I first tried it out because it adds texture to my hair that makes it feel kinda weird and starchy (LOL is that a texture?) I guess that’s how it adds volume to the hair and I just wasn’t used to it at first, but I’ve realized how well this really works because it makes my hair look like it’s full of life. Woo!

TONYMOLY sheet masks

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I like the Tonymoly masks better than the Faceshop ones because these actually fit my face!! There are fewer air bubbles on my face than what I normally get with a Faceshop mask and I feel like this makes a big difference because more areas of my skin are covered. I also really like the serum in these masks. While I can’t say that these masks give you instant results and help with the skin concerns that each mask is targeted for, I can say that the next day (because I usually use these masks at night) my skin still feels really smooth and bouncy. They have been perfect for helping my tired skin get a boost of freshness and just overall giving it a nice feeling. These are typically $5 each everywhere I’ve seen them sold in store, but I found some at UO for $3.75 each, and you can also buy them on Amazon in bulk, which is even more cheaper.

Maybelline Fit Me! Hydrate+Smooth Foundation

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

So if you’ve read any of my other posts, you might remember that I use this exact foundation and colour but in the matte+poreless formula. Well I ran out of that and went to go pick up another one but I swear at every single drugstore I was at, they didn’t have my colour in the matte+poreless formula. And it wasn’t that they were sold out or anything, they didn’t have the colour in the display at all. I don’t know if Maybelline discontinued it in my color or what but I was literally having a mild panic attack, so in my moment of desperation I just said yolo and bought it in the hydrate+smooth formula. And I’m not completely disappointed by it! In fact, I think this formula works better for my uncategorized skin type. I think it makes my skin look like it has more dimension, and not as flat as it does with the matte one. I also think it makes my skin look more radiant and gives it a more natural finish, because it doesn’t cling to my skin like the matte formula does. This does kind of exaggerate my oily spots though, but I find that I can fix that by putting a bit of setting powder on my oily spots and I’ll be good for the day. This formula has SPF in it though, so I probably wouldn’t wear it at places where there’s gonna be flash photography, like at a club event or a party or something, to avoid me looking like a ghost. But I think this is great for the summer because of the glowy, dewy finish I get (I’m not going to lie, it took sooo long for me to give dewy skin a try because I’ve had oily skin, and any signs of shine just make me feel like I got an oil slick goin on on my face, but I’ve really come to love it)

I have a bunch of products I want to buy, so if you guys have any suggestions of good tinted moisturizers or BB creams please let me know! I also really want to buy new concealer and lipstick (not like I need anymore) so let me know if you have any suggestions. And I hope yall had a good June!
