MOTD: Tingus Pingus – MorphexJaclyn Hill Palette

Hey yall! Back with another MOTD using the Jaclyn Hill palette again. I was inspired by this video (LOL):

Porzee is my fave basketball player, and he plays for the Knicks. So as you can guess, the colours of this look were inspired by the Knicks colours! The video is from when he got drafted. Tbh I didn’t know much about basketball, and I still don’t, but the one thing my mans always tells me is that NY fans are intense (clearly). Jokes on them though cause Porzee is cool and good. Fun fact, I’m 7 months older than him. Wild. ANYWAYS, here’s the look:

  • Creamsicle and Orange Soda (from the ABH Soft Glam palette) together all over the lid
  • Twerk from the inner lid to the middle, keeping it below the crease and on the lower lash line
  • Creamsicle to blend everything out!

The lashes I’m using are from Miniso! They come in a box of two and they’re just called “Corner Lengthening”. For $3, 10/10 recommend!!!

Loving the way this look turned out. For my first attempt at a cut crease, I think I did pretty decent! I ‘m loving how vibrant the colours look, and the contrast between blue and orange make them really pop. I’m slowly getting used to the idea of colour hehe. Let me know what you think, and I’ll see you back here in a week 🙂

P.S. For anyone who does makeup/takes pics for IG, I need pointers on how to take better pics of my eyes with my phone for these posts! Help a sista out please!!

MOTD: Caramel Apple Eyes – MorphexJaclyn Hill palette

Hey everyone! I’m the kind of person that hoards eyeshadow palettes yet, ends up doing the same neutral look whenever I decide to wear eyeshadow. I thought it would be a good idea to challenge myself to do a different look at least once a week. This way, I can get maximum use out of all my palettes, get more practice in which will allow me to become better at application and force myself to be a bit more active on here. I’ve been lacking inspiration and I think this is a good way to get my creative juices flowing (but mostly, I just really need to practice).

I’m super excited because on my trip to NYC (which I will update you all on eventually), we were able to stop at an Ulta and I was finally able to get my hands on the Jaclyn Hill palette! I know it’s been out for at least a year now at this point, but I didn’t want to pay shipping or hit my credit card with that foreign exchange fee y’knowwhatimsayinnn.

This look is a recreation of Holly Boon’s look on Youtube (click here for the link to the video).  I loved the way she used the green as a pop of colour against the neutral shades in her crease. It also just looked really pretty on her, so I wanted to try and recreate it as the first look of this series. She didn’t really name the look, but I called it Caramel Apple, because the way it looks on my eyes reminds me of those Caramel Apple lollipops I loved as a kid. I won’t go into detail about the steps and which shadows were used, because it’s all included in the video!

First of all, ignore the fact that only my eyes are done and not the rest of my face. That would’ve helped balance the look out, but I didn’t, and I’ll do it next time hehe. I also wish I had more dramatic lashes, because I think that would really elevate the look. The green doesn’t appear as vibrant as Holly’s. I think it’s because I didn’t use a light enough eyeshadow primer (I used concealer, but I blended it out first, so that kind of took away the brightness of it). I definitely need to keep practising blending and working on shaping the shadows nicely, so that it doesn’t look like a blob on my eye.

Other than that, I’m pretty happy with how it looks! I seriously never incorporate colour into my makeup (like I said, I’m a warm/neutral hoe), so even that little bit of green was a big change for me. I’m quite impressed with how pigmented and easy to blend the shadows were. I can’t wait to use every shade in this palette!

I still have lots of room for improvement! If you have any tips you would like to share, or looks you think I should try out next, you can leave a comment down below and I’ll make sure to try it out!

Coming Out Strong | MOTD & Colourpop Eyeshadow First Impression

One of my favourite songs on Future’s HNDRXX is his song with The Weeknd, called Coming Out Strong. This MOTD was inspired by that song, in particular by my favourite line in the song that says “They said I couldn’t reach Mars, so I turned to a star”. When I think of turning into a literal star, I think of a lot of glow and brightness, and I thought it would be fun to translate that into a makeup look. I also got a bunch of new Colourpop shadows, so I really wanted to incorporate them into this look. I haven’t done a MOTD in a while, and it was fun to use new products, as well as products I already own, but don’t use on an everyday basis. Kind of challenging, but I am so pleased with how this look turned out. If you’re curious to see how the look turned out, hit that read more!

MOTD: All Matte Everything

Before you read this, just know that I am aware that I need to invest in a better camera to capture my pictures. My cell phone just doesn’t cut it when I need to zoom in and showcase the colors I used. I’m sorry!!!! Okay, continue.

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve been able to play with my palettes. Maybe it’s cause I don’t normally wear eyeshadow to school, which is where I spend the majority of my time… Either way, this look is the result of boredom, and also because I wanted to practice my blending skills.

MOTD: Keeping it simple

It’s been a while since I did one of these huh. Sorry if you’re disappointed at the simplicity and basicness of this “look” but I wanted to post this because this is pretty much what I’ve been doing since October started. I have been keeping my makeup routine pretty simple. Mainly because I’m at school most of the week, and since my school days are fairly short, I don’t see the point in putting on a full face of makeup. I’m also just lazy LOL it saves me so much time in the morning to be able to just quickly put on a few products and have time for breakfast. I have also gained an appreciation for simplicity. Don’t get me wrong, I am still all about winged eyeliner, bold lips and blinding highlight, but being very minimal with my makeup has made me appreciate the fact that you don’t need tons of makeup to still feel beautiful. (I mean I always knew that, it’s just that now I’m actually living it.) Not to mention that taking off my makeup at night takes me even less time! It’s great!

My simple routine consists of:

Eyebrows

2016-10-11 05.50.42 1.jpgObviously. I’m pretty sure brows are the one thing that everyone does, no matter what look you’re going for.

Concealer

2016-10-11 05.50.44 1.jpg

I use the Smashbox High Definition Concealer in Medium. This was gifted to me by one of my friends since it isn’t her colour and since then I have fallen in love with it. But I’m pretty sure Smashbox discontinued it because I can never find it on their website or at Sephora… or any place that sells Smashbox. So sad. But yeah I just put this under my eyes and wherever there’s excess redness or discolouration.

2016-10-11 05.50.45 1.jpg

I like to bake my face because it seriously keeps the concealer there all day. I don’t know why I haven’t tried baking my face earlier on in life, I feel like can’t leave the house without baking. It helps my concealer last all day and makes it look so flawless. It also just saves me from have to use my UD de-slick spray (because it cost ya girl $18 for a 1oz bottle and I’m not tryna use it on days where I’m not wearing foundation!!!)

Mascara

2016-10-11 05.50.41 1.jpg

I don’t really like wearing mascara, but ever since I got a sample of the Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara in my VIB appreciation bag (you can read about it here if you want to see what else I got) I’ve been using it just because of the fact that it’s there.

Lips

2016-10-11 05.50.40 1.jpgColourpop’s Beeper is just my everyday go to colour. It requires minimal thought and looks effortless which is what I’m kinda going for.

img_0644

And voila LOL. It looks like I kinda just got out of bed but I still look kinda put together. Woo! Remember you don’t need makeup to feel good about yourself, but at the same time, don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t wear it if you want to! Live your life! Do you!

MOTD: Limbo

Hey hey! I’ve been studying for an upcoming midterm on Thursday and during my study break (which was definitely longer than it should have been but whatever) I decided to just do my makeup since I’m going out later.

IMG_9194

Basics:

  • Maybelline FitMe Matte and Poreless foundation in 310 – Sun Beige
  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop
  • NYX Matte Bronzer in Medium
  • ABH Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown
  • Maybelline Waterproof Liquid eyeliner in Black (obviously lol)
  • Ardell Baby Wispies falsies
  • Covergirl trunaked palette in Nudes
  • Colourpop Ultra Matte lip in Limbo

IMG_9192.jpg
On my lips, I’m wearing Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lip in Limbo. It’s a dark chocolate dream, I swear. Like I think this colour would look good on anyone! Then again, I think all dark colours can be pulled off by anyone, regardless of skin tone. The formula of this particular lipstick is more drying than the other matte lips I’ve tried from Colourpop though. I know May is pretty much over and summer is around the corner, so a lot of people are using more summery colours in their makeup looks but I think if you want to rock a dark lip on a sunny day, then do it! I love dark lips and I’m not gonna let a season dictate when I can and can’t wear certain colours!

Since my lips are so bold, I just went really light with my eyes. Then again, I usually always do LOL. I used the Covergirl Trunaked Nudes palette which I actually have been loving! I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be a waaay more affordable dupe for the Naked palette. There’s actually three different Trunaked palettes which means a dupe for each Naked palette. (Anyways if you want me to go in depth, just let me know)

IMG_9205(1).jpg

I used Shell all over my lid, Fawn in the crease and outer lid and Buff just in the middle of my eyelid. I think all these blended really well together and left me with a really simple, natural look, that still brings attention and dimension to my eyes.

That’s it from me! Gotta get back to studying lol I hope you all have a good rest of your day 🙂

MOTD / Review ft. Essence

Today’s MOTD is also going to be a review of Essence’s How To Make Nude Eyes make up box.

IMG_8574.jpg

I bought this on a whim at Superstore for $10. I’ve never heard of Essence before, and the packaging of all the products definitely stood out to me. I would compare it to being like Benefit’s little cousin. I took my time looking at all the products they had laid out, and with some convincing from my friends (let’s be real, I already wanted to get it, I just needed someone to tell me I should), I decided on the How to make Nude Eyes make up box.

IMG_8577.jpgIt comes with six shimmer shades, a double ended applicator brush and also two “look” cards. The look cards are basically a guide you can follow to achieve an everyday look or a night time look (which the box refers to as an “everyday beauty look” and an “eyes night out look” LOL) using the shadows in the box. To be honest, I was a bit unsure about the fact that all these shadows have shimmer in them. Mainly because I keep telling myself that if I use only shimmer eyeshadow, my eyes are gonna look like a disco ball and be reflecting light everywhere. But the shimmer in these shadows give your eyes a gentle glow and you definitely do not look like a disco ball haha.

When I was applying the shadows, I found that they were not very pigmented. I don’t know if this was because of the formula itself, or just the fact that they were shimmery shadows. I found that, for the lighter shades especially, I had to really pack the product onto the brush and on my lid to get the intensity I desired, and even then, it didn’t stand out as much as I wanted it to. However, these were super blendable. All the colours just look so seamless on your eye when you’re done blending, and the end result is really pretty. It also didn’t create fall out, on my face or in the box.

Overall I think this is a decent product. Definitely good for beginners, but the sheerness of these shadows frustrates me a bit. I wish there was at least one or two matte shades, but I really do like the colours in the box. You get a good amount of product, but I think for the price, you might be able to find something a bit more pigmented that would really be worth your money. I would give it a solid 7/10, but I would not repurchase this again.

IMG_8560.jpg

Reasons why I hate HD cameras: you see everything. EVERYTHING.

So I recreated the “everyday beauty look” today. Eye light beige on the entire eyelid to the browbone, Go for gold in the crease, An eye on apricot on the inner eyelid and blended into the crease and Team nude on the outer half of the lash line.
IMG_8563.jpg

I wore this exact look at work yesterday, but used Cream from the Lorac Pro palette (which is just a matte cream shadow) as a base instead of Eye Light Beige from the box and I found that the colours stood out so much better, and you could see how nice the colours transitioned into one another. I was helping this woman in the fitting room and she stopped me to say that I had beautiful eyes and if you know me, you know how much I love when people, especially strangers, compliment my makeup. Mainly because they aren’t forced to say you look nice, like a friend or boyfriend might have to (but I have drilled it into everyone’s minds to spare me the trouble and just tell me when something doesn’t look right, so that I’m not walking around thinking I’m on fleek when there’s actually something off about my makeup. But that’s a different story.)

Anyways, I hope you guys had a good and relaxing weekend. Mine was stressful to be honest with you, but the past is the past. Hope yall have a good rest of your week, and as always, thanks for taking time out to read this!

MOTD: The result of boredom

I am notorious for putting on makeup but never actually having plans to go out. Or I will have plans to go out, but it’ll be a small hangout with friends at someone’s house and my face will be beat to the heavens. Today is one of those days. The only thing I’ve done differently from my regular, everyday routine is eyeshadow! I honestly have no idea what I’m doing but I think the result came out pretty decent, and hopefully in the future I’ll feel more adventurous with colours. (PS the quality of these pictures kills me too, I couldn’t find my camera so I had to use my phone lol)
