What I Got For Christmas! 🎁

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone was able to enjoy the holidays with the ones they love! To get me back into the swing of things here, I thought I would show you all the things I received this year! Also, I’ve been thinking a lot about how different Christmas is when you’re a kid vs. when you’re a bit older. I remember when I was younger, it seemed like it took forever for it to be christmas. My lists were very long and all I wanted to do was rip open presents. Now that I’m older, it seems like Christmas sneaks up on me every year. Instead of wanting to receive tons of gifts, I love giving meaningful things to others. Maybe it’s just because our concept of time changes as we get older. Idk. But anyways! Here’s what I got for Christmas!

October Favorites

October was a crazy month. It began really slow and then next thing I knew it was already over. It’s probably because my school schedule has been so crazy, that I barely notice time go by. Besides that though, October was great. I celebrated Thanksgiving with my family, got to see my all time favourite band The 1975 for the second time (and currently still feeling the post concert depression HARD) and my cousin turned 18 and had a debut (a big coming of age birthday party for filipinas when they turn 18 haha) and it was sooo much fun. Anyways, here are my favourites for this month.

KathleenLights

This is kinda random because pretty much everyone and their mama knows who KathleenLights is or has at least heard of her. I’ve always heard of her but I’ve never actually watched any of her videos. When I was looking for inspiration for eye makeup, her tutorial using only elf products popped up, and after I watched that one, I binge watched all her videos (not all, but a lot). I love her personality in her videos and how genuine she seems and I think she’s one of my favourite Youtubers now.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip – Mess Around

2016-10-30 02.22.44 1.jpg

Ever since I got this colour, Beeper has taken a backseat as my everyday lip colour. Mess Around is one of those “your lips but better” shade, for me at least. I like it because it’s very natural looking on me and I personally think the colour looks very nice on me. The main reason why I like it is because the formula of this is amazing. I think it’s safe to say that the Ultra Satin Lips are my new Colourpop fave. They are very long lasting for something that doesn’t dry matte and it is soooo so so comfortable on my lips. I never feel like they are cracking or have the life sucked out of them. I’m pretty sad that this was the only Ultra Satin Lip that I purchased from my Colourpop order. I want more!!!!!

Tweezerman Smooth Finish Facial Hair Remover

2016-10-30 02.22.41 1.jpg

You should know that I do not trust those at home moustache remover lotions like Nair. I have this fear that I’m going to get a really bad chemical burn and my upper lip is going to stay red for like a week. I am also pretty cheap LOL I don’t want to pay someone to wax my moustache off if I can do it for free. My cousin actually got this first and raved about it so I wanted one of my own, so I don’t have to be ghetto and pluck my moustache off. It takes some getting used to, but it is really good at getting every hair and takes less time. PLUS this came with little tweezers which I was also really exited about because I have wanted Tweezerman tweezers for the longest time!

Urban Decay de-slick Setting Spray

2016-10-30 02.22.42 1.jpg

I hate that I love this so much because I’m gonna have to go back to Sephora and spend $38 on the full sized bottle. MY POOR WALLET. It’s okay though because this is God’s gift to my skin. I noticed a dramatic difference in how oily my skin is at the end of the day when I use this. My skin had almost no trace of excess shine, which is something that usually never happens when I only set my makeup with powder.

elf Contouring Brush

2016-10-30 02.22.45 1.jpg

This may be the most dense brush I have ever came across in my life thus far. If you really like an intense contoured look, this brush will help you achieve it no problem. Like I said, it is EXTREMELY dense so it’ll pack on the product  easily and the shape of the brush fits perfectly into the hollows of your cheeks.  I guess the only downside to this is that the density of the brush and the short bristles make it kinda hard to blend product. I don’t mind it though because I will just go in with my NARS Ita brush and blend everything out. It is also really good for nose contouring. Not to mention this brush is $7! For the quality and user friendliness (is that a term you can use for makeup brushes?) of this brush, I think that it’s a steal!

Milani Conceal & Perfect Foundation – 06 Sand Beige

2016-10-30 02.22.27 1.jpg

I won’t say much about this foundation because I’ll be posting  a full review on it soon. But I’m sure you’ve all heard about this and I just want to let yall know that there is a reason why everyone love this foundation. It’s definitely become one of my favourite foundations!

As usual, let me know of any favourites you’ve had this month, I would love to check them out. Take care!

MOTD: Keeping it simple

It’s been a while since I did one of these huh. Sorry if you’re disappointed at the simplicity and basicness of this “look” but I wanted to post this because this is pretty much what I’ve been doing since October started. I have been keeping my makeup routine pretty simple. Mainly because I’m at school most of the week, and since my school days are fairly short, I don’t see the point in putting on a full face of makeup. I’m also just lazy LOL it saves me so much time in the morning to be able to just quickly put on a few products and have time for breakfast. I have also gained an appreciation for simplicity. Don’t get me wrong, I am still all about winged eyeliner, bold lips and blinding highlight, but being very minimal with my makeup has made me appreciate the fact that you don’t need tons of makeup to still feel beautiful. (I mean I always knew that, it’s just that now I’m actually living it.) Not to mention that taking off my makeup at night takes me even less time! It’s great!

My simple routine consists of:

Eyebrows

2016-10-11 05.50.42 1.jpgObviously. I’m pretty sure brows are the one thing that everyone does, no matter what look you’re going for.

Concealer

2016-10-11 05.50.44 1.jpg

I use the Smashbox High Definition Concealer in Medium. This was gifted to me by one of my friends since it isn’t her colour and since then I have fallen in love with it. But I’m pretty sure Smashbox discontinued it because I can never find it on their website or at Sephora… or any place that sells Smashbox. So sad. But yeah I just put this under my eyes and wherever there’s excess redness or discolouration.

2016-10-11 05.50.45 1.jpg

I like to bake my face because it seriously keeps the concealer there all day. I don’t know why I haven’t tried baking my face earlier on in life, I feel like can’t leave the house without baking. It helps my concealer last all day and makes it look so flawless. It also just saves me from have to use my UD de-slick spray (because it cost ya girl $18 for a 1oz bottle and I’m not tryna use it on days where I’m not wearing foundation!!!)

Mascara

2016-10-11 05.50.41 1.jpg

I don’t really like wearing mascara, but ever since I got a sample of the Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara in my VIB appreciation bag (you can read about it here if you want to see what else I got) I’ve been using it just because of the fact that it’s there.

Lips

2016-10-11 05.50.40 1.jpgColourpop’s Beeper is just my everyday go to colour. It requires minimal thought and looks effortless which is what I’m kinda going for.

And voila LOL. It looks like I kinda just got out of bed but I still look kinda put together. Woo! Remember you don’t need makeup to feel good about yourself, but at the same time, don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t wear it if you want to! Live your life! Do you!

How I Clean My Makeup Brushes!

I’m not going to lie, I don’t clean my makeup brushes regularly. I’m kind of ashamed to say this, but before today, I can’t remember the last time I cleaned my makeup brushes. I know. Ew. It’s just that I get really lazy and I always put it off. Makeup brush cleaners can be pretty pricey, especially if you’re someone who cleans their brushes regularly, so I thought I would share with you guys my cost effective and super simple way to clean brushes! (When I say “my way” of cleaning brushes, I’m not claiming that I invented this technique, this is just the particular way I choose to clean my brushes… when I actually get around to it)

PhotoGrid_146403434274420160523_133210

So to make the brush “shampoo” all you need is dish soap and extra virgin olive oil. The dish soap is to clean and disinfect your brushes and the extra virgin olive oil is meant to re-condition the bristles. I just put the mixture in a styrofoam plate so I could save time by throwing it away once I’m done with it. I usually just eyeball the mixture, but I looked at a bunch of different websites and the ratio that everyone tended to agree on was 2 parts dish soap to 1 part EVOO, if that helps.

I first cleaned the brush sleeves that came with my elf brushes by rinsing them with water, then squirting some hand soap in the sleeves and just scrubbing the inside with my finger until all the dirt and makeup residue came off.

BEFORE

Now on to the brush cleaning!

  1. Run the brush under lukewarm water to rinse off any surface dirt and makeup (It’s very important to use lukewarm water the entire time, not too hot or too cold. Too hot will damage your brushes, too cold won’t clean the brushes and kill bacteria as effectively)
  2. Swirl the brush in the mixture, making sure you get enough of the shampoo on the brush to fully clean it.
  3. Rub the brush on your hand in a circular motion to work the shampoo in. I like doing this over the front of my fingers as opposed to my palm because I feel like the ridges of my fingers act like a washing board and help to really clean the bristles. (For my foundation brush, I found that I needed to repeat this step a couple times, because there was still makeup trapped deep into the bristles)
  4. Rinse the brush under the tap, while swirling it in your palm, just to make sure that everything is being rinsed out.
  5. When you’re done rinsing, squeeze the excess water out. If the water that comes out isn’t clear, keep rinsing and squeezing until the water that runs out is clear. Then gently pat the brush with a paper towel and set aside.
  6. Repeat the steps for however many brushes you have.

AFTER: Squeaky clean ✨

The way you store your brushes while they dry is very important. You shouldn’t store them standing up because water may drip down to the glue holding the bristles together, and will weaken it over time. If you have more expensive makeup brushes, you will probably want to take extra precaution when it comes to this, but since all my brushes were fairly inexpensive, I am not too worried about them falling apart from one wash.

20160523_135533.jpgI placed my Real Techniques brushes in the travel case that they came with, but I stored them upside down instead of right side up. For my elf brushes, I just laid them flat to dry. Some of the larger brushes came with brush sleeves, so I put the brushes in the sleeves to maintain their shape. Like I mentioned, I had cleaned the sleeves prior to cleaning my so I wouldn’t be putting clean brushes back into dirty sleeves LOL.

Anyways, I really enjoyed cleaning my brushes. It felt really therapeutic and made me wonder why I don’t do this more often. Maybe it’ll inspire me to start cleaning my brushes regularly. I hope this was informative, and leave any comments if you have other ways of cleaning your brushes, or have any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Hope you have a great rest of your week 🙂

MOTD: The result of boredom

I am notorious for putting on makeup but never actually having plans to go out. Or I will have plans to go out, but it’ll be a small hangout with friends at someone’s house and my face will be beat to the heavens. Today is one of those days. The only thing I’ve done differently from my regular, everyday routine is eyeshadow! I honestly have no idea what I’m doing but I think the result came out pretty decent, and hopefully in the future I’ll feel more adventurous with colours. (PS the quality of these pictures kills me too, I couldn’t find my camera so I had to use my phone lol)
