Milani Conceal & Perfect Foundation Review

I just realized that it’s been a loong time since I’ve actually reviewed a product. I’ve been doing so many first impressions, but I feel like you cant use first impressions to base your opinion on a product. So I’m back with a new review! As you can read in the title, it’s on the Milani Conceal & Perfect Foundation. I’ve heard really good things about this foundation and I’ve always been meaning to try it and now I’ve had the chance to (you might remember that I said I wasn’t going to be spending any money on makeup that I don’t need until 2017, but I actually ran out of foundation, so I needed a new one)

I got the colour 06 – Sand Beige

  • $12.88 CAD
  • Glass packaging with a pump
  • 8 shades
  • 1 fl. oz

  • Medium to full coverage
  • Lightweight, oil-free formula
  • Long wearing, water-resisting and sweat-proof

The colours range from 01 to 09 but for some reason there’s no 08? Like it goes from 01 to 07, skips 08 and then goes to 09. So technically there are only 8 shades in the range, which is good but there are no options for people with darker skin.

The foundation itself is quite thick and kind of reminds me of Kat Von D’s Lock-It Tattoo foundation. However when applied on the face, I didn’t find it to feel thick. It actually feels pretty light and like it’s your natural skin. It sets pretty quickly to a natural matte finish, but you do not look flat. I applied less than I normally would with other foundations because of the full coverage claim and found that it didn’t impact the coverage. You don’t need a lot to cover your face. Coverage is definitely buildable but the good thing about this foundation is that I found it to be full coverage on the first application. I added another layer and it was very full coverage, but since the formula is quite light, you can achieve the full coverage look without feeling or looking cakey. It covered up my dark circles and redness perfectly and I didn’t feel like I needed to take the extra step of putting on concealer to conceal any little spots (I did it anyways though LOL) This was a perfect colour match for me.

This is not flash friendly. I was taking a picture for my Brown and Gold Halo eye MOTD  and I didn’t include this picture because I am literally two different colours. It looks much more normal in person, I swear. I don’t know why it does that though because there’s no SPF in this foundation. LOL I’M ACTUALLY CRINGING LOOKING AT THIS PICTURE.

I wore this foundation to school, and since I didn’t use concealer, I didn’t bake or anything. To set the foundation, I just used the Urban Decay De-slick spray, but I found that my nose and the area around it were a bit shiny at the end of the day. Not extremely shiny, but there was no hiding the fact that I was oily. If you carry blotting sheets around with you on the regular, then just setting the foundation it with a good setting spray could definitely be an option for you, but for those of you who are a bit more oily (like myself) I would suggest using a powder before your setting spray, just to be on the safe side.

Poor quality picture but look how nice my skin is looking! And how cute we are!

I also wore this foundation to The 1975 concert and surprisingly enough, it wore pretty well throughout. I was jumping around and sweating and at the end of the night, there was no visible spots where my foundation had come off. You could still see my highlight and contour at the end of the night AND there was no visible signs of excess oil, which to me is CRAZY. It stayed in tact and still looked pretty good from far away. When I inspected my face up close though, you could kind of see that it was starting to kind of separate. Keep in mind that by the end of the day, I had the foundation on for about 12-ish hours because I had work in the morning before the concert and didn’t reapply my makeup for the concert, so I think the separation was probably just due to the fact that I had the foundation on literally all day.

All in all, I am blown away by this foundation. I think it might be my new favourite! I absolutely love the fact that although it’s a full coverage foundation, it’s a very natural finish. I’m not too oily but I’m also not extremely matte to the point where my face looks flat and lifeless. I would say that this foundation lives up to all it’s claims and is definitely worth every penny you pay for this. I’ve never tried any high end foundations, so I can’t really suggest what this could be a dupe for, but I feel like I don’t need to try a high end foundation any time soon because Milani really nailed pretty much everything about this foundation. I love it! 10/10!!

If you end up trying this out, let me know how it works for you. I am pretty sure you won’t be disappointed! Have a good rest of your day 🙂

Mini Sephora Haul and Review

Sephora recently had their Beauty Insider Appreciation Event and for me, since I just became a VIB this year, it meant that I get 3X the points. So I decided it was the perfect reason to buy a few things that I had been meaning to purchase anyways.

Sephora Midnight Magic Face and Body Glitter Pot – Gold

So I originally got this intending to use it as a highlight (it was also on sale so why not), but I found that the glitter parts were a bit too large to use as a highlight alone. I wasn’t completely disappointed though because this is still such a beautiful product, so I used this under my highlight and it really makes it stand out even more. Yall know I’m extra, I gotta glow. If you’re one of those people who like to add a little shimmer to your shoulders or décolletage then this might be something you’d enjoy. But it’s fall now (which pretty much means it’s winter where I live) so I’ll have to wait another season to do any glittering of the body. It also has this little net that you dip the brush in, which prevents you from getting too much product onto the brush.

ABH Brush #12

So I needed a new eyebrow /spoolie brush because 1. My current eyebrow/spoolie brush is friggin small. It’s literally the length of my middle finger and kinda hard to work with… and 2. It’s falling apart. GURL. When I was doing my brows in Texas, the spoolie detached from the brush and was stuck to my eyebrow. It was wild. My cousins and sister couldn’t stop laughing. ANYWAYS. Ya I got this brush. I love how it came with the little protectors, so that the bristles aren’t just exposed. However I hate the spoolie. Like maybe it’ll grow on me but I feel like it just scrapes my skin in the process of blending out my brows. The brush itself is pretty good though. It’s made with synthetic fibres, so it’s perfect for a creme product like my Dipbrow. It’s also fairly small and mimics brow hairs perfectly which I really like.

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Setting Spray

I was originally going to buy the All Nighter setting spray, but the De-Slick caught my eye because my skin gets oily and it’s meant for oily skin lol. I had read a lot of reviews because I was curious as to what people preferred; All Nighter or De-Slick. A lot of people said De-Slick didn’t do much for them, which kinda turned me off, but then the people who were writing the reviews either didn’t have oily skin (Like why would you even buy the product in the first place…?) or had extremely oily skin, and I’m in the happy middle, which is why I ended up going with this one. I bought the smaller version just as a precaution though, in case I ended up hating it. But I don’t hate it! I really do notice a difference in the oiliness of my skin when I use this – aka my skin isn’t as oily as it would be if I only used powder to set my makeup. When I initially used it, it didn’t feel like any spray was going on my face because the mist is sooo fine but I really like the fact that it’s that weightless.

They also had a little promotion going on where if you spend $35 you can get a little sample bag. I like the design and size of the bag because it fits quite a few items. It isn’t extremely sturdy but I think it’s perfect for holding those “necessities” (yenno, lipstick, tampons, hand lotion that kinda stuff). Anyways, the sample bag came with the following things:

  • Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara in Excessive Black (I used it and forgot to include it in the picture because it’s sitting in my makeup drawer now LOL)
  • Sephora waterproof eye makeup remover
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Mad Max brown
  • Estee Edit Mattified Lipstick in Killin It and Abt Last Night and Lip Flip shade transformer in Turn Up and Turn Down
  • Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black perfume
  • Dr Brandt microdermabrasion age defying skin exfoliator
  • Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Total V Contouring serum (specially formulated for asian women and also supposed to help reduce the appearance of a double chin. YESSSS)
  • Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion (it came with three different samples too. One for dry skin, one for dry combo skin and one for oily skin)

I also got the 3 free samples you always get when you order online at Sephora which I didnt picture. I got the Smashbox Iconic Photofinish Primer, Chloe Love Story perfume and Ren Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream. So all in all I would say I got a really good amount of stuff for what I spent. I love free things!!  And I’m also so happy I love everything I bought. Now time to save money like I’m broke for the upcoming months #StrugglingStudentLife

Products I Regret Buying

So far, my blog has been about products I love and products I think everyone should own. But today I’m gonna talk about products I regret buying. Spread the awareness yall! I think my main message from this post is to ALWAYS read reviews before purchasing any beauty products, and use your discretion when buying it. If I had read the reviews about these products before I bought them, then I never would have bought them in the first place because these all had pretty bad reviews. But learn from my mistakes!

*DISCLAIMER: These are products that haven’t worked for me and products I really don’t like. If these have worked for you, then awesome. Not trying to put anyone down in anyway for liking something that I don’t like haha.

Ardell Brush On Lash Adhesive

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

This product is the reason why I will never sacrifice quality for price EVER again. I’ve mostly used DUO or Revlon lash glue, but the day I bought this, I decided I’d rather pay $3 instead of $7. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF LIFE. First of all, this glue dries SO. FAST. So if you don’t apply the lash as soon as you apply the glue, you’re gonna find yourself having to re-apply glue. Also the glue doesn’t dry tacky, it dries crusty and hard. So it is so painful taking this off your eyelid at the end of the night, and I’ve ruined the band of a pair of lashes trying to remove the glue. Nor to mention that if you get this in your eye it BURNS. Literally burns. It feels like you have literal acid in your eye, which makes your eye tear up, and this glue isn’t waterproof, so it ruins the stickiness and you gotta go through the process of reapplying again. Ugh. I’ll keep this just in case I ever run out of glue but I will NOT be reaching for this ever.

Rimmel London Wonder’Lash Waterproof

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I love anything with Argan oil in it, which is why I was compelled to buy this mascara. But then when I used it, I was extremely disappointed. By extremely disappointed I mean that this is the worst mascara I’ve ever used lol. It didn’t do anything for my lashes. It didn’t lengthen or define them. Even when I curled my lashes, it would make them droop. Real talk the only thing this did for me was maybe darken my lashes (I mean they’re already black so how much darker can they get…) and left me looking like a raccoon throughout the day. I don’t know why Rimmel hasn’t just discontinued this already…

Essence How To Make Nude Eyes makeup box

I’ve written a MOTDs that feature this eyeshadow palette, but now that I think of it, I really do regret buying this palette. The shadows are not very pigmented and of the six shades you get, all of them are shimmery and are very close in colour. This is not to get confused though because I think other people may really like this palette, especially someone just starting out, but I think I would’ve benefitted more if I used the money spent on this palette on something else.

My Favorite Night Balm

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

This is from Bath and Body Works and their Co Bigelow Apothecaries line. You are supposed to apply this before you sleep for “intense overnight moisturization”. While it did provide some moisturization, I wouldn’t say it was intense. I prefer using Vaseline on my lips before bed, and that’s what I’ll be sticking to and spending my money on from now on.

I hope this was a bit helpful for you guys. If you’re ever on the look out for new things to by, now you know a few products to avoid. Let me know if you have any products that you regret buying and I will definitely read reviews and maybe avoid them myself. Have a good night!

Garnier Nourishing Cleansing Oil Review

If you’re like me, you want to remove your makeup as quickly and effectively as possible. Like I love putting on makeup, but at the end of a long day, I sometimes just feel so unmotivated to sit there and spend 5 minutes taking it off. Lately I have been using the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water to remove all of my makeup, but like I said, it takes quite a bit of time and 2 cotton pads later to get most of my makeup off (still a really good product regardless!!) Then I happened to stumble upon this little guy and taking off my makeup got so much easier AND better for my skin!

  • $5.99 at Winners (the Canadian version of Ross or Marshalls)
  • Formulated for dry skin
  • Contains Jojoba and Macadamia Oils to help replenish the skin’s moisture balance

  • Dissolves impurities and makeup
  • Replenishes skin
  • In 1 use: Skin feels deeply leaned, hydrates and skin feels velvety soft
  • After 1 week: 100% of women felt skin was smoother and softer

I have been wanting to write this review ever since I initially used this product, but I decided to wait a week because of the one week claim.

This is my first time ever using an oil to remove my makeup, so I wanted to make sure I followed the instructions exactly. You’re supposed to apply 1 – 2 pumps into your dry hands, massage it onto a dry face, then wet your face to emulsify and remove the oil. I noticed that it seemed to get to work immediately. It took maybe 20 seconds to completely take off my waterproof eye makeup, which is the one thing I always dreaded doing when I was using micellar water and cotton pads because of how time consuming it was for me. I also got a little bit of this in my eye on a couple of occasions, but it didn’t sting my eye or anything. Which is always a good thing, I think LOL. It also dissolves liquid lipstick really well with no challenge!

This rinsed off no problem, and although I always cleanse my face after taking off my makeup, I did notice that my skin did feel really smooth. If you were to use this as a makeup remover and face cleanser, you might feel as if there’s a small film on your skin (nothing gross or greasy feeling, it feels more like a film of moisture or a barrier on your skin), but I think this is because this product was made for dry skin, so it packs more moisture than normal. Of course I have no way of proving this, it’s just a theory I have. And yes, I can honestly say that after a week of using this, I have noticed that my skin does feel softer. Like I can’t stop touching my face right after I use this. I walk around my house like  img_0584, then I immediately have to stop because I shouldn’t be touching my face after I just washed it. And the moisture lasts throughout the night and into the next day. When I wake up, my skin feels just like it did when I went to be the night before.

The only thing I don’t like about this is not about the actual product itself, it’s about the packaging. The first time I used this, I laid it on it’s side in my skincare drawer and the next day when I went to use it again, there was a bit of leakage in my drawer. So I stored it right side up after I used it that night, but in the morning when I had to move it, there was a bit of oil on the sides and bottom of the bottle. So keep in mind that this leaks from the pump. Even when you go to pump product in your hand, oil will squirt out of the sides of the pump, so that’s something that needs to be fixed. I now store it standing up with a paper towel underneath it.

All in all, using this oil cut down my makeup removal time significantly but it removed all my makeup so effectively! And what I really love about this is that my skin never feels stripped of anything. I know that I will never go back to using makeup remover wipes, unless I absolutely need to use one, because I feel like after using a wipe, my skin can feel a bit stripped and makeup is not always removed effectively the first time.

  • Dissolves all traces of makeup without leaving any residue behind
  • Leaves skin feeling smooth and soft
  • Extremely gentle on skin
  • True to all claims
  • So inexpensive!! Only $6!

  • Leaks from the pump
  • Some people may find the scent a bit strong (however I personally don’t mind it)
  • Hard to find – I’ve never seen it in any drugstores, so if I hadn’t gone into Winners, I may have never known about this product

If you guys have any other cleansing oils you love, leave me some recommendations. I would love to try out new oils, after being converted to them because of this product. And thanks for reading this! I know sometimes my posts are really long, and I don’t have many followers, but I do like putting a lot of detail into reviews like these to help anyone make an informed decision! Haha okay bye have a good day!

essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara Review

I have been on the hunt for an eyebrow gel for a long time. The problem with my brows is that they tend to droop because the hairs are relatively long. So even if I’ve defined the shape of my brows with my products, throughout the day, you will see some hairs falling out of formation!!!! (If that makes sense LOL). I’ve tried a couple brow gels before but there was never one brow gel that I really liked. I was at Superstore recently and when I got to the Essence shelf, which I always have to stop at, even though they never have any new products at my Superstore, the Make Me Brow eyebrow mascara caught my eye. It claims that it colours, fills and shapes your brows and contains fibers for naturally fuller looking brows. And ya girl is all about cutting corners and killing three birds with one stone! So I decided to pick it up. I’ve also heard about other products that have fibers in it for fuller looking brows or eyelashes, so I was curious to see if it would actually work. There were only two options for colors – blondy brows and browny brows – so I obviously went for browny brows. It was also only $3! Whatta steal.

In the picture above, the top photo is my natural brow with no product in it, and the bottom photo is my brow with just the eyebrow mascara in it. As you can see, the brow mascara doesn’t give you a crisp, defined brow, but it does make your eyebrow look naturally full because of the dark colour and the added fibres. I think the people who would really benefit from using this product on it’s own are people who want a very natural looking brow or for people in a rush. If you’re going to run errands or going on a trip and want something quick and easy this would be perfect. This would also be a really good product for those just starting out with makeup or people who are intimidated by doing their eyebrows. This product is a really good for helping you ease into doing brows and it’s very hard to mess up using this because the pigmentation is very light.

Although this product is meant to be used alone, I personally prefer dark, uniform eyebrows, so using just this brow mascara isn’t something I would do on a day to day basis. As I mentioned though, it is a really good brow gel. My brow hairs tend to get long and kinda droopy if I don’t set them with something, and this is perfect for me. I apply it with a very light hand and very gentle strokes to avoid build up. It dries matte and doesn’t make your eyebrows feel hard or crusty throughout the day, unlike other brow gels I’ve tried, so it’s a really natural finishing touch. In terms of the fibers giving you fuller looking brows… meh. You do get fuller brows but it isn’t like a CRAZY difference.

  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Very easy to use and really good for beginners
  • True to it’s claims (colours, fills and shapes your brows)
  • Perfect for people who want a natural look
  • Does a very good job at keeping your brows in place

  • Only comes in two colours – blonde and brown (however, essence does have a clear brow gel / mascara so if these colors don’t work for you, that’s another option you have)

All in all I really like this product. I think it’s so easy to use, very inexpensive and does a really good job of keeping your brows in place and making them look naturally enhanced. I think anyone can use this product and be satisfied with their result! Try it out, let me know what you think of it and hopefully you won’t be disappointed 🙂

MOTD / Review ft. Essence

Today’s MOTD is also going to be a review of Essence’s How To Make Nude Eyes make up box.

I bought this on a whim at Superstore for $10. I’ve never heard of Essence before, and the packaging of all the products definitely stood out to me. I would compare it to being like Benefit’s little cousin. I took my time looking at all the products they had laid out, and with some convincing from my friends (let’s be real, I already wanted to get it, I just needed someone to tell me I should), I decided on the How to make Nude Eyes make up box.

IMG_8577.jpgIt comes with six shimmer shades, a double ended applicator brush and also two “look” cards. The look cards are basically a guide you can follow to achieve an everyday look or a night time look (which the box refers to as an “everyday beauty look” and an “eyes night out look” LOL) using the shadows in the box. To be honest, I was a bit unsure about the fact that all these shadows have shimmer in them. Mainly because I keep telling myself that if I use only shimmer eyeshadow, my eyes are gonna look like a disco ball and be reflecting light everywhere. But the shimmer in these shadows give your eyes a gentle glow and you definitely do not look like a disco ball haha.

When I was applying the shadows, I found that they were not very pigmented. I don’t know if this was because of the formula itself, or just the fact that they were shimmery shadows. I found that, for the lighter shades especially, I had to really pack the product onto the brush and on my lid to get the intensity I desired, and even then, it didn’t stand out as much as I wanted it to. However, these were super blendable. All the colours just look so seamless on your eye when you’re done blending, and the end result is really pretty. It also didn’t create fall out, on my face or in the box.

Overall I think this is a decent product. Definitely good for beginners, but the sheerness of these shadows frustrates me a bit. I wish there was at least one or two matte shades, but I really do like the colours in the box. You get a good amount of product, but I think for the price, you might be able to find something a bit more pigmented that would really be worth your money. I would give it a solid 7/10, but I would not repurchase this again.

Reasons why I hate HD cameras: you see everything. EVERYTHING.

So I recreated the “everyday beauty look” today. Eye light beige on the entire eyelid to the browbone, Go for gold in the crease, An eye on apricot on the inner eyelid and blended into the crease and Team nude on the outer half of the lash line.

I wore this exact look at work yesterday, but used Cream from the Lorac Pro palette (which is just a matte cream shadow) as a base instead of Eye Light Beige from the box and I found that the colours stood out so much better, and you could see how nice the colours transitioned into one another. I was helping this woman in the fitting room and she stopped me to say that I had beautiful eyes and if you know me, you know how much I love when people, especially strangers, compliment my makeup. Mainly because they aren’t forced to say you look nice, like a friend or boyfriend might have to (but I have drilled it into everyone’s minds to spare me the trouble and just tell me when something doesn’t look right, so that I’m not walking around thinking I’m on fleek when there’s actually something off about my makeup. But that’s a different story.)

Anyways, I hope you guys had a good and relaxing weekend. Mine was stressful to be honest with you, but the past is the past. Hope yall have a good rest of your week, and as always, thanks for taking time out to read this!

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick Review

One day, as I was getting ready, I decided I wanted to try a different colour of lipstick. So I opened my makeup drawer and realized I don’t have much variety when it comes to my lipstick collection. With the exception of my everyday lipstick (Teddy Bare by Milani), the only other colours of lipstick I own are shades of bright and dark red and I took that as a sign that I should probably go buy more lipstick (any excuse to buy makeup is a good excuse for me LOL). I’m usually the kind of person who frequents the drugstore for makeup, but I just finished school and I did really well this semester so I decided to treat myself and go to Sephora. I’m on the website pretty much everyday anyways, so the Too Faced Melted Matte liquid lipstick was already on my radar.

I’m not gonna lie, the first thing that caught my eye were the names of the lipsticks. I seriously told all my friends that I needed this entire collection because I swear every single shade name related to me in one way or another . Okay well not every single shade name, but I made them relate to me somehow. Queen B though?! That’s me! I need that in my life, just for the name alone ugh. I’m so extra, I apologize. Let me get to the actual review LOL. (PS scroll down to see a full list of colours and names!)
