My Skincare Routine (and why it’s so important!)

Last week, I posted a guide on how to develop your own skincare routine (click here if you haven’t read it yet!) and I said that I would make a post about my skincare routine and why I think routines are so important. So here it is! My own personal insight on why I think developing routines is so important, as well as all the products I use, why I like using them and how I apply them to my face. Enjoy!

My Foundation Free Week

My skin is something that I have always been pretty self-conscious about. It isn’t terrible, but I think that the years of bad, painful breakouts when I was younger have scarred me into covering it up behind makeup (Don’t get this confused though! I wear makeup because I like it, not because I am insecure about my skin. They just happened to compliment each other!)

As far as my face goes, most of the time I wear foundation, and if I’m not wearing foundation I usually have on a bit of concealer for my dark circles and little spots. This week I really wanted to challenge myself to go foundation free. I’ve been trying to inch out of my comfort zone little by little, and the thought of being in public places without foundation intimidated me.

A Beginner’s Guide To Developing Your Skincare Routine

I’m not going to lie, I only developed a solid skincare routine a couple years ago. When I was younger, I really didn’t have anyone to tell me what products I should use or how I should take care of my skin. Everyone in my family has pretty good skin, so no one could offer personal advice whenever I’d experience breakouts (and trust me… they were really bad). I put this little guide together because this is something I wish I had when I was struggling with my skin. So I hope this genuinely helps you and maybe provides you with some information you may not have already known. I’m not a dermatologist and I’m not qualified in an way, so this guide is just full of information I have picked up over the years. Always use your own judgement and common sense.

Sunday Riley #Squadgoals Skincare Essentials Kit | REVIEW

I bought myself the Sunday Riley Squad Goals kit as an early birthday present to myself near the end of December. I’ve always wanted to try out the Good Genes treatment, but I figured that by purchasing a kit with more products, it would allow my to try out more products for a better deal. The reason why I’ve waited so long to post this is because I wanted to use it for a couple of weeks to really give you guys as good of a review as I can! (Also just a heads up, this will be a long one, so get ready to read!)

Garnier Nourishing Cleansing Oil Review

If you’re like me, you want to remove your makeup as quickly and effectively as possible. Like I love putting on makeup, but at the end of a long day, I sometimes just feel so unmotivated to sit there and spend 5 minutes taking it off. Lately I have been using the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water to remove all of my makeup, but like I said, it takes quite a bit of time and 2 cotton pads later to get most of my makeup off (still a really good product regardless!!) Then I happened to stumble upon this little guy and taking off my makeup got so much easier AND better for my skin!

  • After 1 week: 100% of women felt skin was smoother and softer

I have been wanting to write this review ever since I initially used this product, but I decided to wait a week because of the one week claim.

This is my first time ever using an oil to remove my makeup, so I wanted to make sure I followed the instructions exactly. You’re supposed to apply 1 – 2 pumps into your dry hands, massage it onto a dry face, then wet your face to emulsify and remove the oil. I noticed that it seemed to get to work immediately. It took maybe 20 seconds to completely take off my waterproof eye makeup, which is the one thing I always dreaded doing when I was using micellar water and cotton pads because of how time consuming it was for me. I also got a little bit of this in my eye on a couple of occasions, but it didn’t sting my eye or anything. Which is always a good thing, I think LOL. It also dissolves liquid lipstick really well with no challenge!

This rinsed off no problem, and although I always cleanse my face after taking off my makeup, I did notice that my skin did feel really smooth. If you were to use this as a makeup remover and face cleanser, you might feel as if there’s a small film on your skin (nothing gross or greasy feeling, it feels more like a film of moisture or a barrier on your skin), but I think this is because this product was made for dry skin, so it packs more moisture than normal. Of course I have no way of proving this, it’s just a theory I have. And yes, I can honestly say that after a week of using this, I have noticed that my skin does feel softer. Like I can’t stop touching my face right after I use this. I walk around my house like  img_0584, then I immediately have to stop because I shouldn’t be touching my face after I just washed it. And the moisture lasts throughout the night and into the next day. When I wake up, my skin feels just like it did when I went to be the night before.

The only thing I don’t like about this is not about the actual product itself, it’s about the packaging. The first time I used this, I laid it on it’s side in my skincare drawer and the next day when I went to use it again, there was a bit of leakage in my drawer. So I stored it right side up after I used it that night, but in the morning when I had to move it, there was a bit of oil on the sides and bottom of the bottle. So keep in mind that this leaks from the pump. Even when you go to pump product in your hand, oil will squirt out of the sides of the pump, so that’s something that needs to be fixed. I now store it standing up with a paper towel underneath it.

All in all, using this oil cut down my makeup removal time significantly but it removed all my makeup so effectively! And what I really love about this is that my skin never feels stripped of anything. I know that I will never go back to using makeup remover wipes, unless I absolutely need to use one, because I feel like after using a wipe, my skin can feel a bit stripped and makeup is not always removed effectively the first time.

Pros:

  • Dissolves all traces of makeup without leaving any residue behind
  • Leaves skin feeling smooth and soft
  • Extremely gentle on skin
  • True to all claims
  • So inexpensive!! Only $6!

Cons:

  • Leaks from the pump
  • Some people may find the scent a bit strong (however I personally don’t mind it)
  • Hard to find – I’ve never seen it in any drugstores, so if I hadn’t gone into Winners, I may have never known about this product

If you guys have any other cleansing oils you love, leave me some recommendations. I would love to try out new oils, after being converted to them because of this product. And thanks for reading this! I know sometimes my posts are really long, and I don’t have many followers, but I do like putting a lot of detail into reviews like these to help anyone make an informed decision! Haha okay bye have a good day!

My skin care essentials

One thing I really love to do is take care of my skin. That may seem strange to some people, but to me, skin care is like a ritual that I cannot go a day without. I’m far from having perfect skin, but I can say that my skin has improved soo much (Let me know if you would be interested in seeing a post about my skin progress or tips and tricks I do to help maintain my skin, I would be more than happy to share!) Skin care is something I cannot cut corners on. It’s the one thing I will spend a bit more money on if I need to because I DO NOT want to compromise the state of my skin more than it already has been. And sometimes, the more expensive products do the best job at helping me achieve the skin I want. Anyways, today I just wanted to share with you guys some of the products that I swear by and a little bit about how and when I use them. Get ready, this will be a lengthy one!

I guess I should also that my skin type is combination at the moment. My skin has been going through an identity crisis since the beginning of the year, so my skin type fluctuates. Maybe I’ll expand on that in a later post.
