I am a huge breakfast fan. I love breakfast foods. Something about eating a good meal for breakfast seems to set up the rest of my day and makes it feel like I will have a great day. This is pretty hypocritical of me to say though, because on the regular, I never have time to make a nice breakfast and sit down to enjoy it. I’m usually rushing around the kitchen, quickly making coffee, and toasting some bread while trying to also finish a yogurt.
Anyways. My friends and I went to get breakfast yesterday (well technically it was brunch because we went at like 11:30, but it was my first meal of the day, therefore I’m calling it breakfast) at one of my favourite breakfast/brunch spots. It’s called The Bro’kin Yolk, and it’s fairly new restaurant that sells amazing food. But I could be biased since they have one of my all time favourite breakfast meals here… They were also featured on You Gotta Eat Here on The Food Network, which I think is so cool! You can watch it here if you’re interested. Thankfully, it’s a less than ten minute drive from my house. But this place is quite popular and whenever I go, I end up waiting for a bit before we get seated because it’s always busy (my fault though, because we never call ahead of time to put our name on the waitlist). The wait is always so worth it though.
Here’s what we ordered:
Selina and Riri got the Chicken & Waffles, which I think is pretty popular here. I remember when Brokin Yolk first opened, the Chicken & Waffles was on a first come first serve basis, and they were always either sold out, or almost out of it. I’ve never tried it myself, but it looks delicious.
Ahn got a Bacon Benny which came with bacon, kale, tomato and roasted garlic hollandaise sauce. I haven’t tried this benny in particular, but it looked amazing. What I love about Benny’s from Brokin Yolk is that they’re served on half of a waffle. And they’re also served with a side of duck fat hash, which is also another one of my faves.
I ordered the Truffle, Ham & Wild Mushroom breakfast poutine which is my all time favourite dish I’ve tried at Brokin Yolk so far. I always say I’ll try something new every time I come in, but I always find myself ordering this. The taste is everything I could want and more. Besides including generous portions of cheese curds in true poutine style, the truffle, ham and mushroom taste so good together. Plus it’s served on the duck fat hash, which makes me love it even more. My mouth is actually watering just trying to describe this to you all.
Gerard got the Sous Vide Fried Chicken breakfast poutine, and I didn’t want to reach all the way across the table to take a pic of his meal so here is a picture of him modelling his jawline (featuring Selina and Riri already enjoying their meal).
And this is me and Ahn loving life. We’re both trying to play it cool for the pic but the truth is that we were starving and just really wanted to eat. Ever since I got a new phone, I’ve been trying to take pictures of everything just for the sake of taking pictures. I love the quality! Also the glare from the light makes it look like the tail of my eyebrow is missing. It isn’t though, don’t worry.
Besides the food, I like eating here because the restaurant itself is so nice. There are large windows that let in a lot of natural light, and everything is very open. I like that the kitchen is open so you can watch everything be made while you’re waiting for your food.
It was nice to catch up with my friends after not seeing them for a month. We’re all pretty busy with the end of the semester coming up, so it was nice to squeeze in some time with them. This is also the group that I’m going to Mexico with! So we were also talking about that, and talking about things we want to buy (of course) and how excited we are. Eating good food, with amazing company. Nothing gets better than that!
What are some of your favourite brunch places? I know that I don’t live in the same city as the majority of my followers, but let me know, and maybe if I ever visit your city, I’ll check it out. I hope you all have an amazing weekend, and I’ll see you on Tuesday!
