My Top 5 Summer Essentials

I think summer is the best time of the year. I love hot weather and the sun and wearing shorts and swimming and every good thing about summer there is to love. I thought I would share some of my summer essentials with yall that maximize my summertime enjoyment. WOO.

1. Sunscreen

Right: Neutrogena UltraSheer Face suncreen SPF 60 / Left: Coppertone Sport sunscreen SPF 60

This is a must have at any time of the year, but especially in the summer! The sun is constantly shining and more skin is exposed, so it’s really important to always apply that SPF. I use two different kinds, one for my body and one for my face. I don’t think there’s much of a difference though, I think the one for your face is just non comedogenic, so it’s better to use than regular ol’ sunscreen. I like to use sport sunscreen on my body because the sweat and waterproof formula ensures that I don’t have to reapply as constantly. I find that the face sunscreen does leave a whitecast (but then again, so does foundation that has SPF in it, so I’m not surprised) at first, but as long as you relly work it into your skin, it isn’t that big of a problem. Sometimes if I want to wear makeup to wherever I’m going, like if I’m going to an outdoor event, or a picnic, I will just use this sunscreen as a base under my makeup. Also. I don’t know about you guys but I looove the smell of sunscreen.

2. Sunglasses

These are another no brainer. Again, the sun is out brighter and more frequently than ever and you gotta protect your eyeballs from those pesky UV rays! I really like sunglasses with the reflective or polarized lenses, not only cause they really help to protect your eyes, but because I just think they look cooler and if you’re a people watcher, like myself, you can stare as hard as you want because no one will be able to see your eyes. That sounded really creepy, but it’s the truth LOL. A pair of sunglasses can be a really cool statement piece to give a plain outfit more character. Personally, I wear sunglasses pretty much all year round, especially when I’m driving. If I can see the sun, then I’m wearing sunglasses. I learned from Jeffree Star that even if the sun isn’t shining super bright, all the squinting you’re doing will fast track the appearance of wrinkles around your eyes, and ever since then I’ve been paranoid to leave the house without sunglasses in my purse. These are my favorite sunglasses. The first pair are beat up and scratched but I love the reflective lenses and how no one can see my eyes.

3. Hairties

This may not apply to you if you have short hair, but one thing that makes battling the summer heat much easier is having a hairtie handy with me at all times. I have been growing my hair out for two years now and it falls just above my belly button, and I always keep hairties on my wrist or in my bag because my long, black hair absorbs too much heat for my liking when I leave it down. I’ll wear my hair in a bun or in braids as a cute lil way of keeping my hair out of my face and keeping me cool.

4. A water bottle

Ya girl really almost forgot to add water bottle to this list! I think it’s cause I carry my water bottle with me everywhere I go, no matter what season it is, so I didn’t even think of it as being essential for summer haha. But it definitely is essential and for obvious reasons. When it’s hot, your body needs literally all the hydration it can get, so don’t deny yourself of that! Not to mention, the more water you drink, the better you feel! I know some people who say that they forget to drink water or they don’t like drinking water (like whaaaat), so one thing you can do to make your water drinking experience better is to add fruits into your water for a little bit of flavour. I think I read somewhere that different fruits give you different health benefits, so pick and choose which ones you want to add. Also if you keep forgetting, challenge yourself to finish an entire bottle in a certain time frame, and keep refilling it when you’re done, and challenge yourself again, to make sure you’re getting enough! Most of the time, the amount of water people need is more than a standard bottle size.

5. A summer playlist

One of my favourite songs at the moment: No Problem by Chance the Rapper ft. Lil Wayne & 2Chainz)

This one is pretty self explanatory haha. Have you ever listen to a certain song and it takes you back to memories of last summer or you just feel like it’s a summer song? I love when that happens, and I love driving with good summertime music playing. I’m sure you all can relate.

What are some of your summer essentials? Let me know!

  1. Nice post!!!!! I also highly recommend a hand fan as a summer essential (perhaps in your top 10). It’s portable so I carry mine around with me everywhere and I can easily fan myself whenever the summer heat takes over!!

    • Wow thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion, I will definitely keep an eye out for a fan! So cute
