June Favourites

I can’t believe June is already over yall. I feel like so much of the summer has already passed, and I feel like I still have so many things to do! Maybe the fact that I was still in school this month made it feel like such a fast month. That being said, I’ve been really focussed on school this month so I haven’t had a lot of time to buy and try products but AYY I finished my class with an A!! So I plan on rewarding myself with some products I’ve really been wanting, so stay tuned for that hehe. Anyways, here are my favourites for June!

Hidden In The Jungle – Adult colouring book postcards

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

When I wasn’t trying to finish a paper or studying for my final this month, I was colouring the postcards in this book as a way to pass time and relieve stress. I like the fact that these are postcards, because when you’re done colouring the pictures, you can send them to your friends and family. And I know a lot of people love receiving things in the mail, so this is a nice way to surprise them and show them you care. Also I love the little jungle creatures I get to colour! Unfortunately, Canada Post is going on strike in a couple of days, so I won’t be able to send the postcards I finished colouring any time soon.

Batiste Big & Bouncy XXL Volume Dry Shampoo

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Shameless confession, I’m pretty sure I use dry shampoo more than regular shampoo. And of all the dry shampoos I’ve used, Batiste is the only one that really works for me. It takes away the oiliness of my hair, makes my hair feel relatively clean without feeling like it’s weighed down by product and the formulas all smell really nice. I didn’t like this when I first tried it out because it adds texture to my hair that makes it feel kinda weird and starchy (LOL is that a texture?) I guess that’s how it adds volume to the hair and I just wasn’t used to it at first, but I’ve realized how well this really works because it makes my hair look like it’s full of life. Woo!

TONYMOLY sheet masks

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I like the Tonymoly masks better than the Faceshop ones because these actually fit my face!! There are fewer air bubbles on my face than what I normally get with a Faceshop mask and I feel like this makes a big difference because more areas of my skin are covered. I also really like the serum in these masks. While I can’t say that these masks give you instant results and help with the skin concerns that each mask is targeted for, I can say that the next day (because I usually use these masks at night) my skin still feels really smooth and bouncy. They have been perfect for helping my tired skin get a boost of freshness and just overall giving it a nice feeling. These are typically $5 each everywhere I’ve seen them sold in store, but I found some at UO for $3.75 each, and you can also buy them on Amazon in bulk, which is even more cheaper.

Maybelline Fit Me! Hydrate+Smooth Foundation

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

So if you’ve read any of my other posts, you might remember that I use this exact foundation and colour but in the matte+poreless formula. Well I ran out of that and went to go pick up another one but I swear at every single drugstore I was at, they didn’t have my colour in the matte+poreless formula. And it wasn’t that they were sold out or anything, they didn’t have the colour in the display at all. I don’t know if Maybelline discontinued it in my color or what but I was literally having a mild panic attack, so in my moment of desperation I just said yolo and bought it in the hydrate+smooth formula. And I’m not completely disappointed by it! In fact, I think this formula works better for my uncategorized skin type. I think it makes my skin look like it has more dimension, and not as flat as it does with the matte one. I also think it makes my skin look more radiant and gives it a more natural finish, because it doesn’t cling to my skin like the matte formula does. This does kind of exaggerate my oily spots though, but I find that I can fix that by putting a bit of setting powder on my oily spots and I’ll be good for the day. This formula has SPF in it though, so I probably wouldn’t wear it at places where there’s gonna be flash photography, like at a club event or a party or something, to avoid me looking like a ghost. But I think this is great for the summer because of the glowy, dewy finish I get (I’m not going to lie, it took sooo long for me to give dewy skin a try because I’ve had oily skin, and any signs of shine just make me feel like I got an oil slick goin on on my face, but I’ve really come to love it)

I have a bunch of products I want to buy, so if you guys have any suggestions of good tinted moisturizers or BB creams please let me know! I also really want to buy new concealer and lipstick (not like I need anymore) so let me know if you have any suggestions. And I hope yall had a good June!

essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara Review

I have been on the hunt for an eyebrow gel for a long time. The problem with my brows is that they tend to droop because the hairs are relatively long. So even if I’ve defined the shape of my brows with my products, throughout the day, you will see some hairs falling out of formation!!!! (If that makes sense LOL). I’ve tried a couple brow gels before but there was never one brow gel that I really liked. I was at Superstore recently and when I got to the Essence shelf, which I always have to stop at, even though they never have any new products at my Superstore, the Make Me Brow eyebrow mascara caught my eye. It claims that it colours, fills and shapes your brows and contains fibers for naturally fuller looking brows. And ya girl is all about cutting corners and killing three birds with one stone! So I decided to pick it up. I’ve also heard about other products that have fibers in it for fuller looking brows or eyelashes, so I was curious to see if it would actually work. There were only two options for colors – blondy brows and browny brows – so I obviously went for browny brows. It was also only $3! Whatta steal.

In the picture above, the top photo is my natural brow with no product in it, and the bottom photo is my brow with just the eyebrow mascara in it. As you can see, the brow mascara doesn’t give you a crisp, defined brow, but it does make your eyebrow look naturally full because of the dark colour and the added fibres. I think the people who would really benefit from using this product on it’s own are people who want a very natural looking brow or for people in a rush. If you’re going to run errands or going on a trip and want something quick and easy this would be perfect. This would also be a really good product for those just starting out with makeup or people who are intimidated by doing their eyebrows. This product is a really good for helping you ease into doing brows and it’s very hard to mess up using this because the pigmentation is very light.

Although this product is meant to be used alone, I personally prefer dark, uniform eyebrows, so using just this brow mascara isn’t something I would do on a day to day basis. As I mentioned though, it is a really good brow gel. My brow hairs tend to get long and kinda droopy if I don’t set them with something, and this is perfect for me. I apply it with a very light hand and very gentle strokes to avoid build up. It dries matte and doesn’t make your eyebrows feel hard or crusty throughout the day, unlike other brow gels I’ve tried, so it’s a really natural finishing touch. In terms of the fibers giving you fuller looking brows… meh. You do get fuller brows but it isn’t like a CRAZY difference.

  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Very easy to use and really good for beginners
  • True to it’s claims (colours, fills and shapes your brows)
  • Perfect for people who want a natural look
  • Does a very good job at keeping your brows in place

  • Only comes in two colours – blonde and brown (however, essence does have a clear brow gel / mascara so if these colors don’t work for you, that’s another option you have)

All in all I really like this product. I think it’s so easy to use, very inexpensive and does a really good job of keeping your brows in place and making them look naturally enhanced. I think anyone can use this product and be satisfied with their result! Try it out, let me know what you think of it and hopefully you won’t be disappointed 🙂

The Beauty Tag

I saw this tag on beautifybrooke‘s blog and I love little questionnaires like these so I decided to do it myself!

How many times do you wash your face daily?

I wash my face twice daily! In the morning when I wake up and at night in the shower.

What skin type do you have?

Honestly I don’t know. That sounds stupid, but my skin type has been fluctuating a lot recently. It’s usually oily and acne prone but there was a period where it randomly got reeeaally dry for a couple months, then it went to normal and now I’m back to oily, but not as oily and acne prone as I once was. So long story short… combination? LOL

What is your current facial wash?

I use Cetaphil in the morning everyday, and at night, it really kind of depends on my mood/the state of my skin. Most of the time I use my Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, but if I have a couple pimples or want to feel extremely clean, I’ll use the Biore Ice Cleanser. My sister recently bought the charcoal phyto powder cleansing foam from The Faceshop and I’ve been enjoying that as well.

Do you exfoliate? If so, what brand do you use?

Exfoliating isn’t part of my skin care routine tbh, but since I use my Clarisonic everyday, it’s kind of like a really gentle exfoliation everyday haha.

What moisturizer do you use?

For my face, I use Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion and for my body I use the Vaseline Total Moisture lotion in the cocoa butter flavor. Scent? You get the idea.

Do you use eye cream?

No omg and I know that I should have started using it like 2 years ago, but I really haven’t looked into anything.

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?

My skin is no longer acne prone. Woo!!! I still get pimples here and there, but I know when and where I’ll get them because I get hormonal acne.

What foundation do you use?

I use the Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless

How about concealer?

I don’t really use concealer, or I don’t use it very often. But the one that I have is the Loreal True Match concealer.

Do you know your undertone color?

I didn’t when I came across this question so I just googled it, and discovered that my undertones are warm? Is that accurate?

What do you think of false lashes?

I think false lashes are great haha I like how they have the power to completely change the look. And I love how there are seriously so many different kinds of lashes. If they didn’t irritate my eyes so much, I would wear them everyday.

What brand of mascara do you use?

I don’t have one particular brand that I am committed to, but currently I’m using the Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara.

Sephora or MAC?

SEPHORA!! Not that I’ve ever shopped at / own anything from MAC, but it just makes sense to me to shop at Sephora because you have so many options in terms of brands and products.

What makeup tools do you use in makeup application?

Makeup brushes and the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Woo.

Do you use an eye primer?

Nope, I just use my concealer lol

For the face?

Yes, I use the Laniege Lumi Block Primer or Baby Skin, depending on my mood haha

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

Liquid! I can’t use pencil eyeliner because I just find that I don’t get the accuracy or intensity that I want with a pencil and also I find liquid eyeliner easier to control.

What is your favorite blush?

I don’t use blush!

Do you use lipgloss?

No bye I hate sticky lips. I recently watched a soothingsista video and she used lip gloss and I really liked the way it looked, so maybe I’ll try lip gloss out.

Do you like drugstore makeup?

Yes I do! I think there are a looot of good products you can get at drugstores that do the same thing as some high end makeup products, but then again it’s all about preference.

Name a makeup crime you hate:

Ummmmmm… I guess when people don’t know how to correctly apply false lashes, and instead of just taking them off or fixing them, they just walk around with crooked and janky eyelashes.

Do you prefer colorful shades of makeup or neutral ones?

Personally on me, I prefer neutral shades, but I always admire how pretty the really colorful shades of makeup are. LOL I look at bold palettes and think to myself “One day…”

If you had to leave the house with just one makeup product on, what would it be?

I mean I’ve left my house with zero makeup products on, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be eyebrows.

What do you think of makeup?

I love makeup! I love how it has the power to transform someone’s confidence and I love how it’s a way for someone to express their creativity! Makeup is also seriously a bonding tool. Like as soon as someone starts talking to me about makeup products or something, I feel like I can talk for ages with them. I also love how makeup trends and looks are always changing. Nothing is ever the same and it’s amazing just seeing all the looks that people can create. Idk, I definitely know I’m not the best at makeup but I love how there is always something to learn and how you can only get better at how you apply it. Haha I can talk for hours.

Anyways, thanks for reading this if you did! I would love to read your beuty tags if you decide to do them. So if you do one, comment below and let me know so I can check it out. Hope yall have a great weekend!

Dupe Alert! – NARS Ita Brush

Okay so I don’t really know if this classifies as a dupe because what I have to show you guys is literally the same brush. Just $67 cheaper. YUP. I GOT YALL. If you’re familiar with the popular NARS Kabuki Ita brush, you are probably familiar with it’s $70 price tag. Yikes. If you’re ballin on a budget like I always am, that is just not in your price range, especially not for a brush. I found a WAY cheaper alternative on eBay for just $2.90CAD and you guys, these brushes are the exact. same. thing. My sister has the actual brush, so I was able to compare and try to come up with differences, but there was nothing drastic that I could find.

This is one of my favourite brushes to use for contour, I think it’s just a really good shape to get into your cheeks and CUT. It’s also pretty good to use for contouring my nose (when I have the time) cause it fits perfectly in that area. I know a lot of people prefer other brushes, but for now this is the one I always reach for. I find that this brush tends to shed BUT I did some research, and the shedding is something that a lot of people complain about for the actual Ita brush, which just further convinces me that these are the same brush, despite the difference in price.

Can you tell the difference between these two brushes?

Ignore the fact that these are loved up and kinda nasty looking, I didn’t bother washing them before I took these pictures LOL. Anyways, the eBay brush is pictured on the top, and the legit Ita brush is on the bottom.

Keep in mind that these ship from China, so it took about a month for me to get mine, but it cost me three dollars, so it really didn’t bother me at all. My theory is that maybe these brushes were rejects from the company, which is why they aren’t sold in Sephora? Idk and I don’t care, I’m just out here tryna save money LOL. Buy it here! This isn’t the original seller that I bought it from, but there are tons of people selling the same brush for around the same price! There’s also a ton of other brush dupes on eBay that you can find if you really search for it. I found an Artis brush dupe which I might order one day.

I hope this helps you guys out! I am all about helping people save money haha. Spread the word and let me know if you have any questions!

May Favourites!

WOW it’s been a minute! And I am wayyyy behind on this so I apologize haha. I’ve been stressing a lot over school and life and have been trying to fill my time by spending time with loved ones to get myself out of this funk, but I’m back! Let’s get started lol.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick: I won’t go into detail abut this because I wrote a review on it right here. What I will say is that I love this lipstick and I have been wearing it pretty much every day this month. It’s the perfect nude for me and looks good with any look! (I’ve also been recommending this to everyone I come into contact with.)

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop:  The very first time I put this on my face, I became Lizzie Mcguire cause all I could say was “THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF!!!” (I literally said that. No one was around to prove that I did, but I promise I did.) There’s really not much to say about it just know that the hype is worth it.

Ardell Baby wispies: These are exactly like the demi wispies, just shorter. A perfect everyday lash for me because they look pretty natural and the length isn’t super long to the point where it weighs down my eyes and I’m getting annoyed (does anyone else have that problem? I swear I’m the only person I know who prefers shorter, non dramatic falsies, which many would argue defeats the purpose of wearing fake eyelashes in the first place LOL) I love the thin, clear band and how easy it is to apply these babies (ps I’ve trimmed the band because I have small eyelids, if any of you are wondering why they look significantly shorter than normal

Covergirl Trunaked Nudes Palette: I love this palette for creating a simple everyday look. I love all of the colors in the palette, none of them are intimidating LOL.This is also a dupe for the Naked2 palette yall! They also have palettes that mimic the original Naked palette and the Naked3, so if you aren’t ready to commit to the Urban Decay price tag, I recommend buying this first. Really good quality, pretty good pigmentation, fair price point and the I love how there’s an equal amount of matte and shimmer shades. I

Urban Outfitters bralette: I’ve had this for about two years, but this past month (and also in April) I have been gravitating towards wearing this bralette instead of a bra. It’s been abnormally hot and when it comes to shirts, I’ve been trying to wear ones that are loose and flowy and light to try and combat the heat. This is the perfect match for these types of tops (I think) because they’re so dainty and light, super comfortable and don’t add any extra bulk that may contribute to your body overheating. I wouldn’t say that this gives your boobs any support but I have tiny boobs so that doesn’t really apply to me haha. Also when it pokes out of the top of your shirt, the lace just looks so pretty! Find it here (you could also check ebay or amazon if you’re on a budget! I know they have ones that look very similar for a fraction of the UO price)

Coloring Book – I’m not musically inclined at all so I can’t get technical about this mixtape, but all I can say is that I love Chance the Rapper and I love his voice and I love this mixtape. I literally love every single song on here. (I was about to list my favourite songs but then I realized I was listing off half the mixtape. My number one favourite song is No Problem though). If you’re looking for something new to listen to or want to expand your music taste, I recommend giving this a listen. I haven’t heard any bad reviews on it.

Sorry again that this is so late. I’m almost done school so I will have more time to put content out. I have so many ideas! Hope you guys had an amazing May, and let’s all celebrate the fact that Mercury is out of retrograde and things are beginning to look a bit better. It’s so crazy that we’re halfway through the year, time is going by so fast!
