My skin care essentials

One thing I really love to do is take care of my skin. That may seem strange to some people, but to me, skin care is like a ritual that I cannot go a day without. I’m far from having perfect skin, but I can say that my skin has improved soo much (Let me know if you would be interested in seeing a post about my skin progress or tips and tricks I do to help maintain my skin, I would be more than happy to share!) Skin care is something I cannot cut corners on. It’s the one thing I will spend a bit more money on if I need to because I DO NOT want to compromise the state of my skin more than it already has been. And sometimes, the more expensive products do the best job at helping me achieve the skin I want. Anyways, today I just wanted to share with you guys some of the products that I swear by and a little bit about how and when I use them. Get ready, this will be a lengthy one!

I guess I should also that my skin type is combination at the moment. My skin has been going through an identity crisis since the beginning of the year, so my skin type fluctuates. Maybe I’ll expand on that in a later post.

Clarisonic Mia 2 – $180 CAD*

You guys. This is my number one, holy grail, ride or die skin care item. As soon as I started washing my face with the Clarisonic, my life changed. I used to use this every time I washed my face, but my skin is fairly sensitive, so I’ve switched to just using it whenever I wash my face at night. After just one use, your face feels so much softer and just genuinely clean! TRUST ME. I am almost certain that you will love it as much as I do. There are also different brush heads for different types of skin, if that is something you’re worried about. I literally have no complaints about this, except maybe the fact that I’ve gotten so dependent on it. If I happened to lose this or break it, my world would end! (Then I would go repurchase another one immediately). I know that there are tons of electric face brushes out there, and I haven’t tried anything other than the Clarisonic, but I would assume they all give the same benefits.

* The Mia2 retails for $189CAD on the Sephora website, but I got mine in a christmas gift set that was $180. It came with deluxe samples of Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum, Glamglow’s Thirstymud hydrating treatment and Fresh’s soy face cleanser so it was a STEAL.

Lush Grease Lighting Tea Tree Gel – $14.95 CAD

This is another number one, holy grail, ride or die skin care item LOL. This little guy is a SUPER effective spot treatment, and if you tend to get random spots or pimples you need this. I find that using the pump dispenses way too much product, so I usually just unscrew the cap and take a bit off the wand. If you notice a small bump or can feel a pimple starting to form under the skin, putting this on before you sleep, and leaving it on overnight will seriously make the bump disappear in the morning. For the pimples that have already formed, do the same thing, and you’ll see it visibly reduced in the morning. I never really break out anymore, I only get random pimples here and there, and whenever I put Grease Lightning on the lil pimps, they go away within a week. There are factors that make this time range vary, but I usually always see a significant decrease in the size of the pimple every time I use this. I recommend this to all my friends who have trouble spots, I promise you will not be disappointed!

philosophy Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel – $29CAD

I really enjoy the feeling of taking makeup off after a long day. However that doesn’t mean that I enjoy the process of it. This 3-in-1 cleanser/toner/makeup remover has been a life saver for those days where I really don’t want to spend five minutes taking off all my makeup. And when I use this with my Clarisonic… OOOHH GUUURL. Makeup doesn’t stand a chance! I really like this because it is so extremely gentle on my face, but it is seriously so effective. I use a little bit less than a pea size amount and it literally melts makeup off my face every time. It also doesn’t irritate my skin, which is a problem I always had when I used makeup remover wipes (disclaimer though, I don’t know how good it is at removing waterproof mascara and eyeliner, because I always take those off using eye makeup remover and a cotton pad)

fresh Soy Face Cleanser – $45 CAD

I discovered this cleanser because it came as part of the Clarisonic bundle I got. At the time, my skin was abnormally dry and NOTHING would alleviate it. After using this the first time (with my Clarisonic), the dryness got better and the second time I used this, the dryness completely disappeared. I kid you not, this is the cleanser that saved my skin. It has also really contributed to maintaining my skin. My skin used to be oily, but after using this regularly, it’s gone to a more normal state, not as oily as I once was, and definitely not dry anymore. There is no added fragrance, but this smells STRONGLY of cucumbers, whch may turn off some people, but I like it because I think it reflects just how strong the natural ingredients are in this. This always leaves my skin feeling so smooth and plump and bouncy. It is definitely on the pricey side, but I’m scared to part ways with this cleanser because of all the good things it has done for my skin. (Since it is so pricey, I reserve this for my night time cleanser and only use a small amount, which still gets the job done!)

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Sorry, I don’t know how much this is, my family buys the 1L bottle from Costco LOL

I had always heard good things about Cetaphil, but I’ve just recently started using it. Again, it is super gentle and perfect for my sensitive skin because it doesn’t irritate my skin, it always leaves my skin feeling clean and smooth and never leaves my skin feeling tight and uncomfortable (yall know what I’m talking about right?) This is the cleanser I use in the morning and I have been really loving it.

Bioré Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser – $8.99CAD

By now you have probably noticed a trend in the types of facial cleansers I use. They’re all very gentle and really help maintain my skin. This cleanser is the complete opposite. I find that all Bioré products are extremely effective, but they can be a bit harsh for my skin, which is why I only use this when I am experiencing breakouts. This is NOT a cleanser you can use daily, especially if you have sensitive skin. Trust me. I learned the hard way. (And again, thats another story). This is one of those cleansers that cool/tingle your skin so you know it’s working. It also works from the inside out, so it will work deep down into your pores, and push all the impurities out. Meaning that your skin will get a bit worse before it gets better. HOWEVER don’t let my description scare you lol this is a really good cleanser, and is really good at clearing breakouts.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion – $13.62 CAD

I have been using Aveeno since I was a kid. Back then I had eczema, and I remember this was one of the lotions my parents used to put on me after I took a bath. Now I just use this as my face moisturizer. I know a lot of people swear by more expensive moisturizers, but Aveeno  has seriously never let me down. It makes my skin so soft, doesn’t clog my pores and is just overall a really good alternative for anyone on a budget. I’ve recommended this as a moisturizer to some of my friends and they all swear by it now too.

Let me know if you guys have any skin care products you swear by, because I’m always open to trying new products! I hope this helps you if you’re in the market for new skin care products, let me know if you try any of these and if they work for you, and if you have any questions!

💖, B
